I just think its mad that you remove a wheel from a vehichle and class it as improved

Would you remove a wheel from a motorbike??

I once tried one wheel motorbike riding when the tyre exploded on the MS50 @ 30mph lucky not to fall off

Therein is the most common issue - it's not saving a 2cv, it's turning it into something instead of saving it. If a 2cv was genuinely scrap, there would be nothing worth saving to build a kit car.

This is my personal issue and it's all linguistic. It's not an A series derivative. It's a kit car that uses A series running gear. There's currently a problem with kit cars that look like 2cv vans. People are trying to get away with registering them as 2cv vans - which of course they aren't.

They need to be registered with the DVLA as 2cv based kits - ideally built using parts that are already in a scrapyard or bought new, and taken through an SVA test.

in cases where the original registration is unknown IVA/

'Q' prefix registration number will be allocated.

noone said it was "improved", there have been many cars in the past that were 3 wheelers- some like kit cars some don,t
the origional chassis was rotton , it has a new galv one, with brand new running gear, its registered on a q plate
my bro drives an ak ,his wife a D*lly+me a D*lly

If the old chassis was so rotten that it needed a new one,and the running gear is all new .....that would imply to me that the original car was pretty well knackered.
Now considering that there is an AK & 2x Dollys in Ayjay's family I would guess that no good body parts were wasted...... so whats the problem with another "kit car" .
[btw .....has it occured to you that maybe the drivers of these 3 wheeled kit cars may be 'bikers who dont hold a full car licence,or even car drivers who only hold an "automatic" licence .....it is legal to ride a three wheeler in such circumstances ....ie Trikes & Reliant Robins].
I do hope the driver of the aforementioned Lomax [who was given "a good ignoring"] does'nt assume that all 2CVGB members have the same narrow minded attiude.

No ......the either the front forks or the rear swinging arm would scrape on the floor. :roll:

I would'nt class an MS50 as a motorbike .....I'd call it a mo-ped ..... [I could call one a few a other things,but as I stated in my earlier post ....."Its bad form to criticise some-one elses vehicle" :roll: ]

i didn,t realize that some 2cv owners look down on 3 wheelers, even calling them"death traps"

Fair enough if ni 2cv bits that are perfectly servicable to waste
the guy i mentioned who came to the puddle ducks had taken a really original solid car and ruined it and scrappd all thr good bits

there's no denying I have one... Neil has previously spotted me harrassing moorland traffic in it (when the bamboo was living at grahams)...

...and although I might've inherited the (4 wheeled) lomax, it is great fun to drive. My personal favourite is the outrageous noises it makes on the over-run when you change down from 4th to 3rd..

you are correct it probably is a bit more of a death trap than the 2cv with no protection at all but I have resigned myself to the fact I will be dead if I crash either.

Regarding the oil cooler it would probably be rather foolish to remove it! I can advise getting the uprated (braided) oil cooler hoses from ECAS to replace the unprotected standard ones. The old man used to have standard ones until a stone thrown up on the dualcarriageway from the car infront split this and dumped all of his oil. immediately.

Its probably worth getting a harley coil as well - the amount of times I have been stuck in summer super sunny hot traffic....

yes fritz, thanks for your advice, ill pass it on-
if it were my project i would keep the oil cooler too , the existing one has braided hoses btw-
i think heis going to fit a yellow coil , he has a secondhand electronic ignition set-up too
he should have received the new stainless steel suspension cans today so its all,s good ;)
