 Re: Chassis Replacement or no???
Joolz, always best to start at the beginning... " I have a bit of corrosion on the bottom of the N/S front chassis. Its quite close to the front (Engine mounts and where all the weight is placed) " As you've said, if there's corrosion in the chassis near the front or rear axles, or 'repair' patches evident on the underside, it's time to have a closer look. ken Joolz wrote: If the problem area is around where the front axle bolts on (and it usually is), then this area is under a lot of stress, and to repair it satisfactorily would need the bodyshell and axle removing, in which case you might as well replace it. Show us a good photo of the problem and we might be able to put your mind at rest, or tell you that it needs further investigation.

Ah yes, you're quite right Ken, I was distracted/confused/led astray, by all the subsequent posts referring to rust under the bulkhead area. If the rust is under the headlamp bar mount it's not nearly so drastic, and I'd say it was probably repairable. If jack's really lucky he may even find a scrapped chassis that's still solid in this area which could donate a section. A picture would still help with diagnosing how serious it is though.

 Re: Chassis Replacement or no???
Joolz, I've replaced the engine bearer cross members on both an OE chassis and a Falcon chassis recently, probably the easiest part of a chassis to work on, tbh. In addition to providing photographs, it would be handy if Jack did some tapping on the metalwork with a small hammer and reported on any areas which sounded 'crunchy' rather then metallic... ken. Re: Chassis Replacement or no???
I had an engine fall out of KEV, that ropey red spesh I had. The front crossmember snapped and I drove it about for a while with the rockerbox resting on what was left of the chassis.
