Post Re: Today's tool porn
OK I accept I should have kept the receipt :!:

However £3.99 is a lot of money, you can still buy a pint with that around here :D

Seriously though it was the principal. It was a 3/8 torx on a standard handle. I was just tigtening up the fixing and it just broke. This was on the misses car and I was under pressure as she needed it for work. I then had to drive down in the van to swap it. Didnt think to take my wallet as I didnt think I needed it, got there the bloke I first spoke to was actually fine and was going to swap it, but just had to check with the manager. He eventually came along and would have nothing of it and went on about how he couldnt swap things like this every day of the week. Suggested I had brought it cheaply on ebay (I hadnt) and was quite rude when I maintained my calm. I took his name and actually its him I have more of an issue with than the tool.

By the time I got back the Mrs was annoyed as she was now running late (and gets paid self-employed by the hour) and consequently had to go to work and drive around all day in the van which she hates. I was stuck without transport (2CV not on road at time) and couldnt fix her car until a neighbour lent me his socket.

I of course havnt yet brought a new one so even though this is now my fault, I clearly wont see it that way when I next go to the rail the brocken socket is not on anymore and will be even more anoyed when I come to use something I dont have.

IDEA :!:  :!: ---- I will go and buy another one this afternoon. Keep the receipt and take the snapped one back on Monday with the receipt. That way I will have two for the price of one or Buy One Get One Free (and Halfords can BOGOF too !).

Its a TORX head, so fairly usless for any 2CVers, so might raffle the spare one as a pointless Christmas pressie on the forum !

The point I was making was that Bosch not only replaced somethng that was technically not under their guarantee because I hadnt registered it, but they then registered several other of their products, collected the tool, repaired it and returned it when it was me who broke it by dropping it off a 1st floor roof....which I had told them about. Where as Halfords just refused point blank and were actually rude about it.

RANT OVER....Squeezebox has enjoyed this opportunity to let off steam.

As this is a "porn" thread, I appologise ......please Russ, bring on the Welding Porn.

Its a very reasonable rant SqueezeBox. If you have a business, they say that for every satisfied customer they will tell 3 people, a dissatisfied customer will tell 10. In this case a whole lot more.

Halfords have now lost out because of one ars* *ole of a manager who can't see the bigger picture. Well worth a letter to head office.

Top tip when writing a letter of complaint, do some research and get the Managing Directors name. Send the letter addressed to that name marked "private and confidential". Works wonders.

Oh the BOSCH thing......as far as I am aware their "proffesional" tools only have a 5 year guarantee. These are the Blue coloured ones, not the green ones. I understand it applies to the whole range of blue ones and that you should really register them when you buy them. (I dont think it applies to batteries.....worth checking out if you are in the market for new gear)

Also just couldnt resist some more tool porn......this is my all time fav bit of gear. Yes its snap on, its small and fits amazinly in the hand. It has such a lovely feel to it and is great for all those akward places ....you know those 8mm ones !

Above all it stops me overtightening stuff.......its just nice and cute.....as I say, dont have much snap-on.......but I love this lots !!!

That's really rather pornographic.

I've got a few bits from the Halfords professional range. I was in there having a root around in the clearance bin, it's usually just full of air fresheners that look like they've been sat on, when one of the guys says he's got some tools to go in there. He disappears out the back and returns with a couple of ratchet handles and a selection of ratchet spanners, some of them had obviously been used by their in house fitters, but quite a lot was just missing it's packaging, including some I know to be over £15. I paid a pound each, I must have left with the best part of £100 worth, for which I paid £15. :D :D :D

Lucky bugger! Our local Halfords has a set of spark plugs with the packaging parcel-taped up in the clearance bin. They're sooty and discoloured and have clearly been used! They've been there over a year now, but you've got to admire the audacity of someone who replaced their plugs and then got a refund on the old ones..!

Yeh, I've got one just like that. It's got the occasional use - and it's great fun when it gets used - but most of the time it'd just be overkill even if it fitted into the space available, which it rarely does.
