Showing off on MIG welding forum someone posted a couple of steel cans tigged together-easy! had a go with the Mig (the one they reckon is useless out the box)  with a bit of a clean up first and a bit more practice reckon it'd be possible to have a clean bead of weld-easier than a rusty oil soaked 2cv bulkhead.

Did have a mate though who failed and as the examiner got out of the car, he promptly did a wheel spin and drove away on his own.

I can see al the benefits of tig or mig welders but have just never got on with them, more holes than weld. I use oxy acetylene which I love and can sort of do miracles with. Bottles are expensive here but at least it gets the job done.

Re: The O/T thread! Car test first time, truck tests third time each, mostly due to nerves. And going blank when it came to the reversing exercise ... it seems odd, that, now that I can reverse a trailer without thinking about it and actually have to stop and think about which way to turn the steering wheel when I reverse something without a trailer.
