H,
removing the resistor is only part of disabling the dim-dip system.
You also need to unplug the connector blocks from both relays near the battery, then fit a bridging/jumper lead on the connector block which has 5 wires.

You need a short length of wire and 2 male spade terminals for a permanent job.

H,
no, because the dim-dip arrangement overloads the light switch and causes it to fail...

I've heard reports that some folk have used relays to switch the headlamp feed, but that's a different story.

DONE! :D

Dodgy connection in the relay multiplug - i unpluged the relays and swapped them round and it all worked swapped them back and still worked so i've cleaned the connections and put it all back together, also re-connected the dim dip resistor and its all good.

thanks for your assistance ken and paul :)

Well to be accurate "all is working" the dim dip is just waiting to get you again ;)

to get trouble free lighting disconnect the relays and if you look at the face of the plug it has tiny numbers for each terminal, on the plug with 5 wires link no1 to no5 with a short jumper made with male lucar crimps on it, and consign the rest of the dim dip bodge to the bin.

Sean

edit:- much easier to look at kens photo

dont mean to hijack your thread Harry, but this is something thats been puzzling me for a while, the relays dim/dip etc, Lily never had anything, no relays, no dim/dip, but the new one has relays, but no dim/dip, but my headlights work fine as they should, so i dont really want to start playing around with something that works fine?

older cars never had it, and so when it was needed for UK citroen lashed up the bodge we have now, the 2cv loom never seemed to have neen designed from a clean sheet of paper rather it sort of mutated organically from the original with later additions added but nothing taken away

if you have 2 relays and they are both 4 leg ones someone has done a good job of putting relays in for you

if you have 2 relays and they are both 5 leg ones you have a dim dip car and there should be a spare lead near the front of the lamp bar (rhs as you peer into the engine bay). The lead may have a large aly resistor (small can.. bigger than a AA battery but smaller than a C) if not there will be a square rubber boot and a 3 way plug in it its often tied up amongst the lamp bar.

it works without the resistor, but best to do the jumper dodge to make it all work fine
