On the other hand.

The main problem is the variations in temperature in the UK. Whilst you can wake up to a frost in the morning [-3 ] by lunch time you can be at +12.

If the air flow on a 2CV was thermostatically controlled, the flow would be restricted when cold and wide open at the higher temperature. In effect people should set off with muff on and take it off later in the day. How many people do that.

My issue with a muff is that people fit and forget. It would therefore be much better not to fit a muff in the UK unless a sustained cold snap is forecast where day time temperatures remain less than +5 degrees.

Paul,
I still don't understand what significance there may be in your choice of 5 C ( or even 12 C) since according to Citroen, the muff can be left on until ambient temperature reaches 15 C?
:?

Just trying to indicate that the ambient temperature in the UK doesn't often lend itself to having the muff fitted. I have seen so many cars with the muff left on much longer than it should be and on days where the temperature has risen significantly.

I am not a big fan of using a muff unless it gets really cold.

Paul,
yes, it's a balmy 4 Centigrade here at present, with more of the same to come.

...since you mention it... The muff's almost always on when I go to work a 7 in the morning, and depending on the temperature when I come home in the evening, I either leave it on or stuff it in the car. It's not exactly difficult to take on or off!

That's exactly the right way, but not many people do that. :|

I have a stick-on thermometer on the inside of my windscreen. It's the sort of thing you're supposed to use on greenhouse glass. Tells me exactly what temperature it is first thing when I get to the car. No use if the sun's shining on it or after a while with the heater on, but helps with the initial decision.

Jisses christ guy's, this isn't rocket science

Winter is mufftime, take it off in summer.

If the 2CV can handle temps in sahara without a muff, it can handle the english summer with a muff, don't you think? They dont completely block the airflow.

Now, let's see more of them muff-pictures......
