You can cut a sunroof in it.... But not as a colleague at the paper did. At the time you could but glass sunroofs at Wickes or Praxis. He did cut a hole in his Opel's roof and yes the glass hatch fell into the car.... He was very lucky they still had a bit larger size sunroof on sale... ;-)

I knew you would propose this!
But i won't cut in my van anywhere.

Away in Devon again, but on the way down (awful traffic, a 6hr journey..) a horror noise developed.

I have so much stuff in my boot in case of car need, but suspecting a dry drive shaft I've ha dto go and buy a grease gun and some grease. Maybe that's done it, we'll find out tomorrow.

But I grease them all the time!

Oh well, we'll see on the way home.

Thanks Geert.

Grease was all it needed. In all my years of 2cv I've never heard that noise before. These aftermarket drive shafts have never seemed great. From new they made clunking noises already. I should have stuck to genuine used ones but these were from Ecas. The seals have lasted very well though.

Anyway the Mighty Deuche stormed is way home with its usual aplomb. It's a 3.5hr journey normally, the 6hr one on the way down was because of traffic.

Post Re: My Red Special
My exhaust manifold studs got loose again and were backing out so I took it back to the same guy who fixed it last time and he did it again, this time with bigger timeserts that he makes himself.

It's so quiet now! Love it.

Also asked him if he'd do my kingpins and he said yes straight away! Wasn't expecting that, so they're also done. One of my arms needed the tightening up thing I've seen online. My old kingpins were extremely worn apparently. Disappointed with that, was a waste of money really. The Welsh plugs weren't in very well, so no matter how much I greased them, it wouldn't get all the way up through. I vaguely hoped if I did it enough it would help, but apparently not. Shame. Anyway it drives lovely and is noticeably different. I'll find out if I can grease them properly soon, but I have faith it'll be OK. I was literally doing the old ones every few hundred miles sometimes but my MOT inspector was constantly raising concerns.

I also have a working speedo again, which is quite novel after a couple years! Fun.

Clutch and handbrake adjustment. Vince is very good, Henley based.

I use molybdene grease that also has some lubrificating capacities when it dries up...

That make sense. I always used that on my drive shafts but recently can't be bothered because it means I've always had two grease guns. So I've started using normal grease on the drive shafts and king pins too. I didn't even think of the other way around!

Amusingly our Bentley S3 has king pins. Imagine how big they are!
