Rick did it in a tent at Salbris with no special tools except a gadget to set selector forks (spacer on a stick).

It took Rick about 2 hours and he can do it blindfold so it will take more than an afternoon for a novice..

I can hear Russ's **cking swearing already.

follow Haynes only thing is the input has to come out into the box as modern boxes the pinion is larger than the bearing.

youll need paper gaskets for the output housing and speak to Ken or Rick about bearings

Just bear in mind, that kind of job is a repair job and not near a rebuilt or overhauled gear box.
It takes some effort to reset end float, pinion depth, back lash etc etc.

Are you intimating that Rick did not do that? I assure you he did all that. He spent a good amount of time measuring the various shims (which he had with him) to get the backlash just right. He also fitted all new bearings including 2 parts (needle bearing and synchro) which I bought from you. The only thing that wasn't done was to super clean the outside, but all mating surfaces were scrupulously cleaned by me.

I consider it a fully rebuilt gearbox.

Post Re: Gearpox
Please excuse me high-jacking this thread briefly, but could I just ask the experts a quick question on the same subject? :) :
Is there any reason why an Acad long-spline input shaft can't be used in an drum-brake Dyane gearbox (replacing a short-spline input shaft)?
The reason I'm asking is that I want to keep my Dyane ratios and drum brakes but need long splines to match the clutch/flywheel in the Visa engine that I'll be fitting. (...or would it be better to swap this discs for drums on the Acad gbox, and fit that?)

because the gear pinion that is part of the input shaft is fixed and you need to make sure that its the same no if teeth as the one your replacing

an acad box may be the same ratios as the dyane anyway ....im not going looking it up you can do that

long spline inputs work with all clutches short are'nt ideal on diaphragm ones

Did Rick strip both out put hubs and replaced both bearings?
Did Rick strip the Crown wheel (replacing the bearings)?
Did Rick strip the planet gears and satellite gears?

Be careful, the input shaft may have the same numbers of teeth but not the same diameter.
The lower train gear needs to match the input shaft. They are cut together. If not matching together, it can be noisy.
