If they are 'hard' pop them in the fire for 20 mins and when they are red hot, slowly remove them over a couple of mins so that they cool s l o w l y. Do not plunge in water to cool as that would harden them again.

Just a thought, aren't track rods for AKs, Acads and Amis shorter than 'normal' ones, or am I losing the plot?

Larger diameter, though, so you'd need to pair them with the track rod ends, which'd get the length back to "normal".

Are you saying that Acad/AK/Ami8 are larger diameter than 2CV?
(Ami Super are larger diameter than Acadiane).

As far as I'm aware, it's only Ami Super which are larger diameter, with all the rest having a rod diameter of 14mm.

Haven't bothered to go digging in the sheds, but there's one lonesome Ami Super adjuster sleeve 'somewhere' around, which looked to be a couple of millimetres larger...

D'oh. Thinking about it, it'll be an Ami Super/2cv mismatch I'm thinking of - swapping the RHD rack on the Meh with a LHD one kicking about Russ's Nissen Hut.

Ignore me. As usual.

Hi all
How difficult would it be to shorten Track rods??
Are the arms hardened, would it be difficult to cut one half and extend the thread (the right hand thread part obviously)
I'm wanting to narrow the front track by 6 to 8 cms

Cheers
Boggy

why?

Because car will be lowered, its the only way to get tyres away from outer edge of wheelarch as I dont want to alter shape of front wings, also to accomodate a change to alternate wheels and adapters and because I ame using a LNA gearbox which is narrower than a 2CV box

<scratches head>

Lowering doesn't narrow the track.
Wider wheels need the same offset, so you don't move the centreline outwards and kill wheel bearings quickly.
The box width shouldn't make any difference - you'll need to either use Ami Super shafts to match the bolt pattern or 2cv shafts with adapters which double as spacers...

My goodness this is getting out of hand!!
Let me explain.. with car low tyres rub on outer wheel arch on turns. Narrowing front track will bring tyres inwards and stop rubbing. When did I say anything about wider wheels???.
The box makes a big difference because LNA does not need adapters its the same bolt pattern as 2CV and as its narrower and the track will be narrower it will not need spacers as I already have driveshafts to fit.
Hope that clears things up.
Now back on topic are AK and acadiane track rods the same size?
Cheers
Boggy
