Yeah it's bound to be that bit of pipe, what a ball ache that you've just filled it up. I'd rest the tank on a bit of board on a trolleyjack, undo the bolts and drop it down on that. It only takes ten minutes but you're almost guaranteed to drop juice all over your face etc when the tank is full.

Did you fill it right up to the cap? As it might be the rubber connections between that end and the tank filler tube have perished. I dropped my tank last year to replace that pesky top bit of tube and drained fuel from where the nylon chassis pipe joins to the rubber pipe at the front,into fuel cans.The fuel drains from here even though the pickup is a the top of the tank,by way of syphoning.

I would say drive it around until it's nearly empty before dropping the tank, but if it's leaking that badly that it's pissing out, then I would expect the car to be running badly due to it sucking in air. If the car continues to run fine, then that might suggest it's the sender unit seal rather than the bit of pipe, although I can't imagine the seal failing suddenly or dramatically.

And I would suggest syphoning as much fuel out of the tank as possible before dropping it, or you will end up rinsing yourself in it.

Hmm, this incident is par for the course this weekend, I'm afraid. Just spent yesterday literally elbow deep in poo trying to fix (and then having to replace) a knackered Saniflo shit-muncher unit. Then my darling son exacted revenge on me for asking him to vacuum the lounge by using it to "accidentally" suck a scarf into the pipe and then running the motor till it burned out. Then this pain-in-the-nuts job.

If your dropping the tank make sure you clean it out too while your there

There was a slapstick moment when pure liquidised turd was being sprayed under pressure all over the bathroom/me due to a misunderstanding leading to the unit being switched on while the out-pipe was disconnected. I'm sure I'll find it hilarious in a year or so.

A few years back a guest jammed up the Sanilflow (on purpose) with about 10 tampons. I unhooked the waste pipe and looked in just as my elbow hit the switch. I heard it power up but froze.
There was a silhouette of me on the wall surrounded by white fluffy tampon.
