Post Weight of AKS400
Does anybody know the weight of a AKS400 body only, that is minus chassis, all doors, wings, bonnet, side glass spare wheel/petro tank cover and petrol tank.
I need to get it to a restorer but don't have the necessary licence to tow a car trailer,so I need to adapt a trailer I can tow to take just the body.
Thanks in advance.
Steve

Well an entire van weighs about 600kg? The body probably accounts for a third of that so maybe 200kg?

Boat trailers work well.

Have you thought about hiring a Sprinter or a Crafter from Merc/VW? An A series body will fit comfortably in the back, certainly something to consider if you're having paint work done for the journey home. I think I paid £80 for 12 hours last time I hired one.

Not even that. Two people can (just) lift an AK shell. James Duffell and I re-proved that theory at the weekend... That's with windscreen, dash, rear wings and doors fitted, but no side flaps or front doors. The front's bloody awkward - nowhere to really hold - but the weight's in the back. Definitely heavier than a saloon shell, though.

Boat trailers work well.

I dunno about the current-shape ones, but vans won't in the first-shape Sprinter/LT. A 2cv shell, yes. A Dyane IIRC is JUST a nidge too wide with rear wings on. Mehari without side panels, yes, but not with - the "fins" don't quite fit. Not unless the subframe's shagged enough that you can flex the side boxes in easily...
