Er which car are we talking about? If your car has the clacker in the indicator switch, I don't think you can have a separate indicator light. If you have a flasher unit, then there may be a third terminal on the unit which would be the live feed for your lamp.

If you have the clacker indicator, you can make a simple bit of electrics which senses the current fed to the indicator switch, which in turn would feed the indicator lamp. This sort of gismo can also be used for the repeater lamp for trailer lights.

Are you sure that an indicator tell tale light is applicable on your car - cant remember one on our G plate? Is it some arsy MOT tester who doesn't know the age related changes in rules or am I wrong?

No mot tester was v nice
Apparently anything after 1980 requires one. He is ringing vosa for me to complain, but he seemed to remeber them having them from his apprentice days at citroen

Ecas do this extra panel with indicator and full beam tell tale, about £15.

I think there might be a general how-to in the 2cv handbook, do you have a copy?

Finally, was it Darras Rich who logged the lack of tell tale issues with VOSA as a get out of jail free card? Think there was an article in 2cvgb news.

James,
your MOT fellow is wrong on several counts.

Here's a copy of a post I made on 2CVGB's forum last year...

Had an entertaining discussion at the MOT station this afternoon when I took one of the Dyanes in for its annual checkup.
It seems that someone in the 2CV world has been stirring things at VOSA, since an item from a document handed out at a recent seminar for MOT testers reads as follows;
An inspection of the main beam warning lamp is included in the test from January 2012 and it was thought that this would be fairly straightforward as the regulations state that vehicles first used on or after 1st April 1986 must have one.

Then a Citroen 2CV enthusiast threw a spanner in the works by pointing out that they didn’t have one. It transpires that 2CVs were produced until 1990 and after some research we discovered that there were some manufactured before but first used after the ’first used’ date which didn’t have one.

To make life easier for NTs, we have agreed with DfT that all 2CVs first used after 1st April 1986 without a warning light should not be failed for that reason, but if one is fitted, it is testable
.”

Tbh, I don't think that they have contacted the correct source, since the main beam and indicator warning lights were never fitted to 2CVs destined for the UK market, although the wiring is there for those markets where they did do the job properly.
Maybe they asked Citroen UK? :roll:
