unfortunately the other components will have suffered and aren't as easy to replace

bugger, thought that would be the case, this bearing belongs to a different crank to the one i'm putting in the engine but I can't find the bearing that belongs to the crank i'm using...

Make sure and measure the main as there were a few reconditioned cranks that went back in to the system either under Citroens "exchange standard" label or Vegge. 0,5mm smaller diameter.
