No C.T. for bikes - Government was trying to introduce it but not yet.. Same as usual over here - the breath test thing has all but collapsed after many of us have bought them.

I went to the prefecture today with all the paperwork plus a photo of the bike. She took it all, said what a pretty bike, handed back the photo and registered it for the first ever time.

So my Solex is totally registered as a vehicle in France, 1st time in 43 years of its life :D

You do but they made a law stating you have to carry 2 x Breathalysers (L'Ethylotest) in every car to enable you to self test if you have been drinking. @ because you may have used the first.

Not sure it is working that well.

This not in force as yet and has been delayed again due to the lack of the kits!! I have heard that the Gendarmes have used the motorists kit for the road side test, It is muted that the law will be kicked into touch. We have the requires kits in both our cars, along with the other required items. There are a lot of ex pats (prats) who winge on about the various laws/rules in France. The debates on Anglofile are at times so pathetic it's farcical. We sorted our Satnavs out as soon as the law was in place re speed camera's..No one seems fully sure what powers the Gendarmes have to search your car. The authority is simple it's a loaded pistol

Just a quickie on the insurance. I want to go ahead but cannot find any sort of email contact. Looks like a telephone service or post.

Do you have any electronic contact with them or is it all done by post.... such as sending documents etc... I just scan and email to my current provider.

Cheers
Ian

I found this - AMVgestion@amv.fr

but I do all my insurances on line by filling each page etc and pay on line. They will send you documents and ask for photo copies afterwards

Also the girl I deal with speaks better English than I do.

Cheers - I am buggered though. Bloody contract with Generali can't be broken (they say) so I have another 11 months to go.

I will go ahead with AMV for the Solex though and change the AZU as soon as I can.

Ian

To change insurance in France you must send them a letter by recorded delivery 2 months before the next date and ask them for proof of no claims. Going in to the shop will not work even if you live next door to them. Also if you pay by direct debit cancel it before and instruct the bank not to pay. I was with the same company for 5 years and they stated that if I did not do it properly when I changed to AMV the owner of the shop stated - Quote - If you do not send letter before next year I will F--KING take the money again - end quote
