 Re: Rene - The 1970 AZU AK250
I had wondered why there was a brand new driveshaft gater rolling around the cabin when I bought the car. When I took the wings off last night I realised why. This was the first major job to be done on my car by me.... so out with the Restoration book and into the barn. Attachment:

It went to plan perfectly even the bit where I un did the engine bolts and scooted it over a little to get the end of the driveshaft out. All greased up (mistake number one, filled up the inner driveshaft and then found out the inner would not go in all the way... found grease nipple to release the pressure) All done Attachment:

Can anyone tell me what the little bracket to the left of the driveshaft is for, this side is empty, the other side has two perished rubber bungs.

 Re: Rene - The 1970 AZU AK250
It is for attach the inner front wing. This is old type bracket. New type is made from rubber. Small rubbers for old type is same as rubbers for front bumper (new type) ... https://www.citparts.at/en/products.php ... h&q=110012

 Re: Rene - The 1970 AZU AK250
Thanks Keza.. So it must need the little rubber bungs then. Any idea where I can get them, just checked a few catalogues and found the bracket but no bungs.
I assume the front wing just sits inside these (I did not notice this when I removed them, don't think they were fitted properly)

 Re: Rene - The 1970 AZU AK250
Is that madvice from the 'restoration' book? The usual method is to jack the chassis high enough for the suspension arm to be on 'full droop', turn the wheels towards the side on which you're working, then there should be no need for attacking the engine bolts. ken Tripyrenees wrote: It went to plan perfectly even the bit where I undid the engine bolts and scooted it over a little to get the end of the driveshaft out. This must be about AJS bikes,I haven't seen the term Jampot which referred to the rather large round rear suspension units, for many a year

 Re: Rene - The 1970 AZU AK250
Not yet.... everything is prepared for the new dynamo. I have traced all the cables, tested them, rejoined them. Cleaned all the earths from chassis to battery. Put in a new Regulator 8325A. I paid for the new Dynamo 7276G over two weeks ago but the old French guy (ex citroen mechanic) waited ages for my cheque to cash then another age to post it. So I now have the tracking number and my nose pressed up against the window for the postwoman. It would all be so easy without the waiting.

Looks new and the only thing I noticed different to my existing unit is that the field terminals are connected one on the rear and one on the front of the new one where both field terminals were connected together on the rear of my old one. Attachment:

All fitted to the van and on with the test Attachment:

IT WORKS - hooray!!! The charging light on the dash board has gone out for the first time I have had the car. Everything seems to be working well and my lights a little brighter. It is now throwing down with rain and snow so do I go out for a test run...... I must.
