I have just ordered my Mig Welder and wondered if anyone in France knows where I could buy/rent a bottle of gas CO2 etc.
Trying to do some searches but not coming up with anything.

Brico depot have all the gases for welding I understand . or I guess Leroy Merlin also

How much welding are you going to do? Tiny bottles in Mr.Bricolage cost a fortune. Same from AD Distribution suppling the trade, contracts only.
I get my stuff from the UK, much cheaper

I saw them in the Brico stores but wanted the larger bottle ad have it refilled. I am a registered company here so maybe I can get a contract, there is an AD Distribution near to us.

Do you know what I need to ask for ,

They have a rather large stock available. We went to see them and got some quotes (Not cheap despite our french registered garage)

there is gas-less mig welder wire , the wire has a flux core i think. i don,t know if its any good

I am a beginner to welding (I did do it as part of my apprenticeship but that was a while a go now) so I think I prefer gas as I have read the gasless wire is a little dodgy.

I might get a small bottle from Leroy Merlin to practice a bit while investigating further. I have the whole van to do plus my son's mini so there will be plenty of time spent welding.

Do you pay an up front fee for the bottle then a recharge fee when it is refilled. Similar to the propane we use for our cooker.

Stange business, as this lot < http://www.airliquide.com/en/company.html > have just bought out Engweld/Energas, the UK company from which I've been buying gas and welding materials since 1993.

Let's hope the Froggies don't increase the prices, or I'll be changing supplier...

A big bottle of Argon mix will cost you an arm and a leg about €280 the small disposable bottles from the local bricos will give you at the most 10 minutes of welding time.

You will also need gauges for a big bottle and the French guages do not fit English bottles and vice versa.

Pure CO2 is cheaper but it has to be the right kind of bottle some let the gas evaporate of from the top of the bottle which is the right one the wrong type of bottle has a tube internally down to the bottom of the bottle and the gas comes out as a liquid and will ice the gauges up.

South West Gas Supplies in the UK seem to be popular as the fill there bottles to 200 Bar to get get more gas in the bottle compared to some of the other suppliers who only fil to 135 Bar.

Plus its a good source of info on all aspects of Mig Welding.

I am also looking for Mig Welder and it looks like the best place to buy is the UK comparing prices to those here in France.
