Looks like someone done monkey business in there?

The wires should not connect to the same pin. Take one matching the pin and fit it on the other pin without touching eact other.

You MUST fit a negative from the regulator to the battery

Thanks for all the info.

I have rewired it as to what I think it should be.

The two small wires on the back of the dynamo front casing are the two ends of the coil which I have connected to the thin post which is now the FIELD wire going to the regulator.

The other wire now goes to the +ve Brush on the dynamo (larger pin) and goes to the D on the regulator.

I have connected the earth strap to the housing of the regulator.

BUT, still no luck. I have a feeling the regulator is just to beefy for this little car. I will search for a Ducellier regulator to match my dynamo.

I have no clue why they would mess around with the connections though, but does explain why they put on a new battery and regulator just before they sold it. It could in fact be the Dynamo itself... :cry:

Thanks for that. I have seen that before but it doesn't really tell you how to test, but just what to expect. I will check the amps in series tomorrow.

But I am hoping it will be the regulator, so I have a bid on ebay for the correct type (I hope). Also just won the bid for a dynamo extraction tool, just in case. That was a bit of a coincidence, just hope I don't need to use it.

But if there are any other ideas I would welcome them

PS - drove the furthest ever today, 10 Km. Managed 65 Km/h but when I hit a bend it was a little scary..... 1st time for everything.

Does anyone know about reflashing the Dynamo.

I have read that if you connect the Field terminal to earth and then connect the Dyn terminal to the positive of the battery then this re aligns the polarity of the dynamo. Just think as it was all connected up wrongly.

Anyone heard of this??

Without sounding like Jon Pertwee's 'Doctor', I did reverse the polarity of the dynamo on my Morris Minor, but it was so long ago I can't remember how I did it. So I guess it can be done on a 2CV.

Have you tried just the dynamo disconnected from the regulator - you should get some voltage from it. Also is there a short between the wires or wire to the outside metal?

Are you driving the car without it charging?

Remove both wires on the dynamo, D+ and DF.

Make sure that the wires behind the bridge is connected to a pin each and not touching anything.

Connect the voltmeter to D+ and earth. Rev to app. 3000 note the voltage. Should be around 1/4 of 6 volt = 1.5 -2 volts. If not polarise the dynamo this way.

Connect both wires on the dynamo the right way D+ and DF.
Connect both wires on the regulator also D+ and DF but NOT the battery B.
Next polarise the dynamo by touching the D+ for a short while with direct current from the battery B.
