What's the point of that mod? Just seat your welch plug properly. :)

i recently did my kingpins knightly, bought the whole kit
the welch plugs seated fine
i boinched it in the centre of its dome to expand it and punched the remaining edging around it, but it had been replaced a few times previously
the edge of the hole on one side was mullered when it came to pumping the grease in is just leaked

Hi ayjay.
I saw this method using long M6 bolts about 5 years ago and it worked for me.
Because somebody had replaced the kinpins and had punched all the way round the the edge of the welch plug with a very fine pointed chisel and made a right pigs ear of it.

So the moral of the story do not punch round the edge of the welch plug.

Use a big ball bearing in a the end of a an old socket and short extension bar and give it a good whack with a hammer.

Which reminds me must find another ball bearing to replace the one I lost.

Hi Ajay.
Another tip I was given once the king pin was driven in.

Clean the area where the welch plug would normally fit to get rid of any grease with thinners and put a very thin smear of filler.

Then fit the long bolt plus washer the size of a welch plug and tighten up and leave for a day to or longer to let the filler harden before pumping grease in to the assembly.
