Post Re: I hate winter
Well, we're not really into winter yet, it's just wet and yucky. So far no problems for me, the car starts well, and the heater gets nice and warm very quickly, and the car demists within a few hundred metres (I have the glass scrupulously clean anyway so the condensation has less to key onto, and I'm loathe to wipe misted up glass). No leaks either, although I did notice a bit of towelling wrapped around the jack in the boot was a touch damp, so I've discarded it. The boot floor appears to be quite dry. A shot of Ferrosol around the floor area every now & then probably helps. I'm looking forward to the frost & the snow and having the roof rolled back on a crisp sunny winters day.

I did however get caught out this morning, Short journeys rain and no daylight meant I got the inevitable Whurrr r r r r r r r r... Click treatment this morning.
5 mins locating my starting handle and another 5 mins on said handle.
for a 10 Minute journey, no way was I walking to work though.
So what have I learnt today? Nothing as i could not be arsed to take the battery off and charge it up tonight, so chances are it will be the same pantomime tomorrow.

:o Never in my life have I managed to start an a-series on the starting handle. Even newly refurb'd engines!

Also, my acad leaks like a sieve, so i HAVE been known to keep a mcdonald's coffee cup or similar kicking about to bail out the toeboard area after the crappy weather comes in!

Same here, whenever I've tried, the car has just tried it's best to kill me, or at the very least break my arm. Never had a problem with the Morris Minor, first turn every time (when the starter motor failed).

You should notice a difference. I use 8mm foam to line the roof in winter and when its icy out there is still ice on the roof after I've been out for a drive so the heat is staying in the cab.

Another tip for those who don't have back seat passengers is to put a board or something behind the backs of the front seats. Cardboard would do I suppose. This will stop the cold air from the back of the car moving to the front under the seats and also mean that any warm air pointed at the floor will have to stay in the front.

Must take some pics of the other Raid Laponie mods. We had -25 outside and +25 inside!!

A Blanket (or two) hanging down from the frontchairs/bench to the floor will do the same trick, if big enough you can cover the complet chairs/bench.... otherwise only the seats.

When there is less space in front or you don;t like that drop it from the back of the chairs/bench to the floor....

Get an old blanket, roll of strong tape (Elephant tape) and some clear plastic sheeting... Cut a sizeable hole in the blanket and tape the clear plastic sheeting over the hole and hang it from the central bar that runs across the top of the car. Make sure you take good measurements so the 'window' is in the right place and make sure the blanket is long enough to drape the full height of the interior. You'll blank the rear of the car off and will keep all the heat up front and still be able to use the interior rear-view mirror. :geek:

Fred has played his little trick on me a few times this week now, once he is going all is well so im guessing its a battery issue so I will go over it all at the weekend.

I know that If He dont catch the third time i will get the click, so its 3 times on the starter, and then out with the Dugga Dugga Stick.
10 plus year old batteries are like that
Im guessing there is not enough charge holding to work the starter and coil at the same time.
He usually catches on the fourth go.

The Trick with the Dugga stick I find is dont fight it, Go with it, as it will always beat you.

Ignition on, Choke out a little, Put Dugga Stick in the hole Edit: Pull (dont push like I do)

Repeat until the magic happens.
Remember its not how far you go but how hard you go that little way.

If you think these are fun try a Petter powered Dumper truck

If you can't make a good swing with your Dugga Dugga, you can change the position of the fan (including the Dugga Dugga holder) so that you can give a good swing into and over compression

Dugga Dugga Dugga Dug...............
