hi there
it doesnt have the same profile at all,the glass would need to be 10mm smaller as the seal is the type where the glass sits directly above it,level with the metal aperture, and the original glass sits on top of the aperture.
The glass guy has gone off to his workshop to see if anything he has in stock will do the job for now
I guess its going to take a while to ship it from France?
Did you want me to return this one,we ddint actually get as far as fitting it,he said he should have checked it before he cut the old one out,as soon as I gave it to him he said thats the wrong one
darn !

I have spoken to Jean Pierre at Retro Design. They have supplied several seals to Ami owners around France. Some have problems fitting the seal others don't.

Do you fit the holding strip first?

If you can't fit it, please return the seal directly to this address

Please put our name on it. We'll give you a refund

Attention Jean Pierre

RETRO DESIGN - BP 40045 ROUTE DE VALENCIENNES - 59710 PONT à MARCQ

Really sorry for your trouble.

hi there,The guy said its a "clayton rubber" type of seal, which was a universal type he has used for years and they come in a H shape or a S shape
the holding strip was out , he said the S shape one would probably fit
Hes just got back and thinks he may be able to cut a MK2 golf one down and fit that for now
fingers crossed as its clouding over :(

Ah well these things are sent to try us I guess
I will get the seal off in the post and let you know once its gone
thanks for getting back to me so quickly
Cheers
Matt

If Retro Design is selling these without anybody able to fit them, something is wrong. Have another go, it can't be impossible.

Its difficult to explain without you actually seeing the difference ,he offered them up and showed me what he meant and you can see straight away its not going to fit.
He managed to cut a golf mk2 rubber down and its fitted, not perfectly at the top inside but looks reasonable on the outside fingers crossed its watertight for now.
The golf seal is similar profile but thicker, the glass actually fits on top of the metalwork frame of the car , the seal they sent being H section would mean the glass sits inside the metalwork parallel to it ,so the glass itself would be smaller.Maybe the ami 6 is different I dont know, but this guys been fitting screens for 30 yrs and ive known him for 15 thats why I let him do it instead of trying myself.

cheers
Matt
