Post Re: The O/T thread!
Funnily enough, I used to drive round London in an artic quite a lot and I always found the road users pretty good. There were certainly no vague ditherers on the road; I assume they'd succumbed to the law of survival of the fittest long ago. Everyone knew exactly what they were doing and where they were going and most people were polite enough to acknowledge me if I flashed them out into traffic or whatever. I found it a pretty good place to drive on the whole, though it was always a relief to get out of the place and get back to Herefordshire. As for the people ... they're like anyone else, I suppose, a mixture of good and bad, although I prefer them when they stay in London rather than buying up second homes in rural areas and turning up every so often to patronise the locals.

A good place to drive on the whole? What about the suicidal bike couriers who feel the need to clip the wing mirrors of every vehicle they undertake (bastards) whilst reading their A-Z strapped to their handlebars obscuring the view they would have had of the truck/taxi/pedestrian they're about to stack into? And don't get me started about the pointless wastes of flesh and organs that are cyclists! Red lights? Not to them they're not. They're just a warning that an inconsiderate motorist is about to pull out of a side road and try to murder them in cold blood, but strangely they feel no need for helmets/lights/road sense because I assume they've all taken to Hunduism and have no problems with their imminent death (and I assume their believed rebirth). People crossing the road on zebra crossings? Viewed by cyclists and inconvenient slalom courses, the older or more infirm the person on the crossing the more they need to tut and weave around then shake their heads about it.

Yes James, still kneeling in dogs piss whilst being looked down upon by bin men who felt the need to take the piss as they drove past us. I can't really complain about that too much, as unpleasant as the job is it is still the job. I'm not convinced the local residents knew we were working or assumed that we were on some sort of community order.

But my biggest gripe about the filthy bastards who live in "the big smoke" is how they treat their environment, the one in which they live. We've had to deal with used needles, tramps urinating in alleyways in broad daylight while kids are walking past (making no attempt to hide their genitals from view) litter everywhere and today, joy of joys, a used jubber hanging over a sign we had to paint. And this is in Hampstead. A 'nice' part of this revolting cesspool of a city. I'm sure some egotistical London dweller will tell me that I'm just some backwards retarded bumpkin but whilst the vibrant nightlife of the big city hold some attraction I can't help but think the hassle and filth that is abundant everywhere you look are just too vile to deal with for the sake of a night out where I will either end up stabbed, infected with aids or in the company of some complete wankers.

It's a sickening hole.

I've just bought a moisture meter from Amazon to test firewood for dampness. All very well, but I notice that, once I'd finished paying for it, there was a button to click which would allow me to tell the world, via Arsebook and Twatter, that I'd bought this thing. To me, this sums up everything that's wrong with the world. Are there really people out there whose lives are so utterly devoid of any meaning that they'd actually feel the need to tell people (who they don't actually know and will probably never meet) this sort of thing? I don't like the "blog culture" anyway - isn't it enough to just do something without feeling the need to go around shouting about it and banging a big tambourine? - but telling the world you've just bought a fucking moisture meter is a new low point. Or am I overreacting?

You don't notice them in an artic. Unless they're on stilts, they don't bump your mirrors.

which meter was it? i bought a kamsa one for a few quid just to show some pesky client that their Anelhydrate screed, whilst indeed having "gone off", was still about 90% water and at the depth it had been poured would require 3 months to avoid entinite decoupling of the mega expensive shite fired earth tumbled travetine floor they had been conned into buying.
not something that its designed fo,r but none the less, they werent going to listen to a man in an overall over a bimbo in a trouser suit who hadnt a fuking clue about anything other than makeup and pinogrigio.

could have had mine if there had been an app telling people what you were thinking of buying

Best not mention that I bought one a few weeks ago, then? ;)

It was made by Stihl, so it's got a rather fetching black and orange colour scheme, mind you...
