Looks like my laptop battery is low because it's reading wrong...

Sean do you have access to Volkswagen 6 volt regulators Bosch? Can't find any in France or the net for that matter. Even Traction folks ain't very helpful ( Paris-Rhone or Ducellier)

Bought 6 of these but they are all shit. 4 are not working 1 is sparking when battery is connected, last one is over heating and cutting out at 8 volt.

Viking,
have you thought about switching to an electronic regulator?

http://www.dynamoregulators.com/dvr3.php

Maybe worth contacting them, even if just to find out whether or not their product has previously been fitted to an old Citroen...

no all my vans were 12v

ahem not cheap!
http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_parts_Char ... try_GB.htm
http://www.machine7.com/product.php?xProd=2984

old bikes had 6v too so may be worth a check there too and you wont pay the premium that old VW gear attracts
Google turned this up - see 2nd item on page
http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffyelectrex.htm
http://www.aoservices.co.uk/facts.htm

sometimes known as a "controll box"
http://www.feked.com/voltage-regulator- ... -type.html

be aware that some will be +ve earth and so heed the warnings about reading instructions as you only get one chance to wire them up wrong
Im not really an expert on electrics

Thanks guys

Ken the ''new'' electronical regulators are not meant for Dynamos with DC current but AC current according to a Dutch sparkie I just spoke to.

I've found a replacement regulator fitted on TA in Holland. Expect it to land soon. Will report back.

Also D models and Tractions down under are fitted with 6 volt Bosch regulator. Will properly order some in Oz.

Viking,
are you quite sure he's a sparkie?
Maybe something got lost in translation but by definition, dynamos produce direct current whereas alternators produce alternating current (although for automotive applications the AC is rectified to DC by the diode pack inside the alternator casing. )
