 Fitting new drum brake adjuters. I've got to fit new adjuster bolts to the front drum brakes on my Dyane. Getting hold of the bits is easy enough, but how hard are they to fit? Is it just a matter of finding something to use as a rivet snap, fitting everything together and peening the end of the "bolt" over, or is it more complicated than that? Is there a tool available to make the job easier? I've got at least two to do, so I don't mind having to buy a tool. All advice gratefully received, as ever.

Re: Fitting new drum brake adjuters. They might fit ... the ones that came off (and the ones that uncle Roy sells) are riveted together, not with pop rivets I hasten to add. Those Land Rover ones will probably be an imperial head, and I don't know how long they are: the 220mm brake drums have longer adjuster bolts than the 200mm drums.

Re: Fitting new drum brake adjuters. do you have a Haynes with the tool dimensions in the back? ill scan it if you haven't
you can also tap the centre hole and fit an M5 bolt or button head Allen with some thread locker IIRC need to grind the portion with the flats and add a washer to get the tension on the "Breville" spring washer.

Re: Fitting new drum brake adjuters. It is very simple to replace the adjuster bolt since the back plate is off the gear box. Put everything together and place the bolt upside down on a solid vice. You may need a 3. hand to hold the back plate. Use a center punch to expand the tip of the bolt. Turn the bolt 1/4 turn, use a hammer to flatten the tip. Alternate between the center punch and the hammer, turning 1/4 often. Eventually the bolt comes under tension from the 2 spring washers between the bolt head and back plate. When firm (turning the bolt) job done.
Remember to fix the cam the right way.

Re: Fitting new drum brake adjuters. They look to be identical to the Land Rover ones, except for the price. Bolt length is the same for all three applications ( rear 180mm, front 200mm & front 220mm dia), change in position of the snail cam relative to the backplate is achieved by shuffling the stack of washers... ken dave 411 wrote: What about the ones Retrospec sell?
