 Re: MUFF !
winter tip get a air vent re furb kit off Matt Concanon fit the muff make sure there is an under tray too drape a smallish cheap blanket over the front seats so it hangs down the front and almost touches the floor get a good scraper - Brabantia do a good one with a rubber squeegee for internal wet when its started dont be afraid to run with the window slightly cracked open as it helps to get the damp air out (drill holes in the swages under the front mat to let water out) clean the locks and vaseline the door rubbers have enormous fun driving the car where even landrovers struggle the only car that moved that week DSC00051 by Sean602, on Flickr

 Re: MUFF !
Isn't there a consensus that a muff should be removed if travelling more than five miles at more than 50mph? That's what I was told when I bought my first 2CV from Daryl Stokes of The 2CV Centre, Birmingham, in the late '90s.

 Re: MUFF !
Jonathan, first I've heard of that, but maybe I haven't been paying attention for the last 32 years... On the other hand, how about flat out with a tuned engine for 24 hours? 24H 2cv Spa Francorchamps 2012... by azu250, on Flickr 1089 (Kopie) by azu250, on Flickr 1090 (Kopie) by azu250, on Flickr Jonathan wrote: Isn't there a consensus that a muff should be removed if travelling more than five miles at more than 50mph? Like yesterday for example, 80 miles on the M6 at 65-70mph with the muff on at temps about 7 or 8c. Still seems to be working today though.

 Re: MUFF !
i've fitted mine, but if i'm heading down the dual carriageway or motorway it comes straight off, although i'd probably take it off when driving from mine to the workshop average of 15 miles!
no way Ken! racers with Muffs! i remember either last year or the year before people were covering the top parts of their grilles due to carb icing but a whole muff?
how old are the photos? seeing as splitters are regulation now?

 Re: MUFF !
The top photo would indicate it was about a week ago. Quite recent really. Those cars are not UK spec racers, they're standard cars.

This year at 24h Spa Franchorchamps -8 degrees, even a race 2cv needs a muff then, or oilcoolers taped with ducktape to get less cooling.... as seen on the reel race 2cv.....

 Re: MUFF !
Joe, maybe do what they advise in the USA and R.T.B.M? There's nothing in Citroen's Owner's Manual about removing the grille muff for long or fast journeys, only to put it on when the temperature is below 10*C... More photographs of cars racing at Spa in 2009, when the temperature wasn't anywhere near as low as it was at this year's event. ( Hope Martijn is OK with me using his photographs. ) http://62.95.94.132/albums/album125/DSC ... .sized.jpg http://62.95.94.132/gallery/album125/DSC_8337_800x600 http://62.95.94.132/gallery/album125/DSC_8331_800x600For what it's worth, I recall a racer going about 2 seconds a lap quicker during an event at Croft just by masking off the grille with gaffer tape when the driver noticed how cold the engine was running. I watched that car 24 being driven off the circuit and driven home, all road legal those Classic series cars. To see a car driving it's owner and his son home after being raced for 24 hours was incredible. One car had it's grille completely taped over, even the BMW engined hybrids had their oil coolers taped up it was proper cold.
