Bought a nice 1.4 injection white one today, in good technical condition but absolutely spartan - no power assist or anything else (except for a rear wiper). Still, I love it even more after the 250 km trip home, going to sleep now, as 40 hours without it have worn me down quite a bit. Pics soon, it needs a proper cleaning :)

Great cars, i've had a 1993 TXD estate ,1.9 non turbo diesel for 7 years ,it cost me £350 . It's had a clutch cable, 2 spheres ,a couple of return pipes and one squirty leak but other than that just sundries such as oil and filters etc .

It's incredible the amount of stuff you can cram in and on it ,i once had an armchair and a washing machine in the back and all the gaps stuffed with other house move stuff and a 3 seater settee on the roof :D

My dad had a 1.4 leader in the 80s , it gave him a bit of grief with the gearbox i think but to be fair he was using it to tow a caravan and it wasn't the best model for that ,would have been better off with a bigger ,diesel model.

The bx forum is good for info. I particularly like the tips like the DIY front strut re-lubrication thread, saved me a couple of hundred 8-)

I replaced a few bits which required it, some just to be safe - plugs & HT leads, HP pump and alternator v-belts, camshaft drivebelt, pulley and water pump (plus camshaft seal), voltage regulator and fan thermal switch. Now I'm looking for a used fuel level rheostat and to fix a leak which seems to be somewhere around the front height corrector (may have to swap it for another used one). Other than that it's in very good condition, compression a nice and even 10.5 bar across all 4 pots, no sign of oil consumption, it rises instantly after the engine starts running and the pressure accumulator works too. And the pump comes on very rarely. No rust, interior in very good condition. And the ride is just so awesome :)

I have had 2 x bx's the first was given to me a white tzd hatchback, 1.7 td with sports interior it went like a rocket was comfy and had no issues with much other than the accumulator sphere (on the front of the pump) was knack erred as the (clicking) you here from the pump was to frequent plus I had a sphere gone on the front. Incidentally don't be afraid of changing spheres there a doddle although its worth buying a sphere removal tool (on eBay cheap) I have one kicking around somewhere.

The second was a one owner 45k from new, but was not as lively it was a 1.7tgd a more sedate interior and felt slightly slower but could not be sure as it still put you in the seat when the turbo came in, this had a problem with the octopus junction on the front where the lhm from the reservoir meets an octopus looking junction and the lhm is diverted off to different pipes around the car, mine was leaking and it's an absolute sod to get to.

2cvs are easier to work on and maintain IMO. But the bx's have a lovely ride :D and I favoured the diesel as its such a good engine some can run on bio if you get one with a Bosch pump mine was a Lucus cav unfortunately :( but it ran on red ok

Indeed but bx's are far easier to work on than even the next in line the xantia ,let alone more modern cars :)
red is just dye and very naughty , but yes i have heard the bosch pump ones will apparently run on pretty much anything ,probably . Image

Any suggestions where I might buy a new/NOS octopus for my BX? The bastard keeps losing drops of precious LHM wherever I go ;)

Try these

although it might not be your octopus it could just be an easy return pipe or something ...

I made a octopus myself from brass -pipes and a bras cube. Drilled and soldered together, has worked for several years then I sold the car...........

Maybee I've got some pics somewhere will try to find them!!!

Cost me about 8 euro for the whole thing!!!

I may try something like this http://www.rmattila.com/images/remontit ... us_change/
Separating the 3 circuits and replacing the bloody thing with available parts. It's such a pain in the ass getting to this thing, that I'm determined to replace all of it while I'm there.
