How old is it? Two stroke or four stroke?

Post Re: The O/T thread!
It's a 601, the two stroke model. It was ordered in 1976 and delivered in August 1989 (unlucky!). I was put in touch with the seller a couple of years ago when I tried to buy another and the seller of that one had a change of heart at the last minute. It's taken two years of occasional nagging until the guy agreed to sell it, and I paid top money for it but I'm well pleased with it. We did briefly drive it round the farm yesterday but its got no rear brake shoes or rear brake pipes so it was quite exciting/dangerous. I managed to get it into first and second but I think it's going to take a bit of getting used to. Reverse is still a mystery. It's been off the road since 2005 and although it spent most of that time in a garage it needs a fair bit of work. Nothing on it is complicated though and all the parts are available new, although everything has to be shipped from Germany. I don't have many pictures of it yet.

Genuine DDR joke:
Bloke orders a Trabant. The salesman tells him to come back to pick it up in nine years time. The customer says: "OK. Shall I come and pick it up in the morning, or the evening?" Salesman: "Are you taking the piss?" The customer: "Not at all. It's just that the plumber's coming at 3pm on that day."

Thanks to DaveB and his brother, I've finally got my Trabant. It makes a 2cv look complicated and with no brakes and no idea how the gears/fuel tap/anything on the dashboard works it made driving the seatbelt-less 425 feel like the safe option.

You're welcome. Happy to help
