 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
Think the rubber strips on the Cote doors are probably covering the usual rust problems they have there.....

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C339782# And £15,000! Please feel free to correct me, but... I don't think a spécial would have hub caps and certainly no passenger side mirror or gutter trim. The grill is wrong too and should be plain grey. Unless it was a dealer model then the roof and pinstripe is wrong too. My 1985 special has the usual multi-coloured seats and not the earlier brown pattern, but seeing the dashboard is the earlier type they could be ok for 1984. The rear bumper should be the narrow type. Anyone spot anything else? I may be being picky, but at this price and claiming it's totally original and unrestored it really should be like it left the factory. It also has one red HT lead and one grey one - who replaces just one lead?

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
They should have left it as it was - ruined it now, all for a quick ££. Such a shame.

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
As far as I know those seats were not used in Specials, but I'm no expert. However, for me the tell-tale signs that this is a big pile of bullshit are: - The lack of attention to authentic detail that you'd expect of a top-priced collector's car eg that ridiculous line from rear sweeps to bonnet and the rather shoddy finish of the paint job (look at the underside of the bonnet in pic 101 on photobucket!); - Codswallop writing to bamboozle the gullible: "Most buyers of a car of this pedigree will know what they are looking at (and for) and so we lightly dust the engine with WD40 to offer some light protection to the moving parts." Huh? Add to this the general "selling it up" piffle eg "timewarp" (used 4 times!) and "this beautiful little car" and you have a highly fishy smelling dish. - It's being sold by a company, and look at the name: "The Classic Car Investment UK Ltd". They're out to make as much as they can from silly old fools who have money to burn and are looking to invest in "commodities" now that the stock market is unreliable. It's basically tapping into nostalgia ("my first car was a 2CV, and now that I'm a high-court judge and I'm cruising along, I'd really rather like one again..." etc) and disguising it as "investment". Look what you could get for similar money: Attachment:

They obviously know how to flog a motor, so good luck to them. Quite frankly, anyone who thinks that a late-model 2CV is worth £15k, even after a quick non-authentic make-over and a light dusting of WD40, deserves everything they get. God bless the "market".

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
But who is buying these cars? I don't know anybody who would pay more than £3k for a 2cv.

I'd say the seats are correct with the twisty switched dash but it should have a narrow back bumper and grey surrounds to the front indicators rather than black. It's claimed that all the glass is original and then they include a photo of the drivers door lower window with a 'Covina' logo (as fitted to portugese cars) rather than Saint-Gobain (as fitted to french cars). It's got rear parcel shelf supports but no rear shelf. The front edge of the rear wings are being held in place by shiny phillips head screws rather than the correct body coloured slotted screws. Those plug leads are really annoying me. Having said that, it's a lovely bit of kit and I reckon it's worth every penny of about five grand on a good day.

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
It's had paint as on photo 51 the rubber bung in the A-pillar is body colour so lookslike it was painted over - they were black from the factory.
Photo 80 - the bung in the C-pillar is missing entirely.
An original 84 special should definitely have a 8cm rear bumper. You could just about get those seats and a twisty knob dash with black indicator/rear light surrounds and black wiper arms, but it would have to be a very late 84 to have this -I've only ever seen a tropical blue B-reg with this combo and that was actually built in 1985.
The blub states the second owner purchased from a 2cv specialist so I reckon it had some work there.
And yeh, for my 15k I'd expect a matching pair of HT leads.

Headlamp bulbs, cheap as(£2.99 pair), not as chavy as the listing makes them seem, and have a slightly yellow tinge. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370550846161? ... 1497.l2649
