 435 to 602
What benefits would I reap, if any, should I fit a 602 engine to my deathly slow Dyane 435. Is there a problem with the gearbox & will the 602 fit?
Thanks in advance
Andy

 Re: 435 to 602
It would be a shame to loose an original 435cc Dyane 4 as they are so rare these days.
Maybe selling it and keeping an eye open for a more common 602cc late Dyane with Disc brakes would be a better prospect for you if you need a daily driver.

 Re: 435 to 602
Give the 435 a good going over - a 425 will do 70 in a 2cv on a good run and a dyane has better aerodynamics. I'd take the heads off, give them a thorough going over. Lap the valves, etc..
Check the piston rings, make sure the barrels are in good nick. How often do you service it? Change the oil in both the engine and the gearbox. Change the points/condensor and time it up properly. Are you using the correct air filter? And what breather do you have? Make sure the manifold and exhaust are sealed properly, correct air in tyres, etc...
All easier than doing an engine/box change and you keep the car original.
Personally I don't see why people retrofit 602s - If you're going to all that hassle why not fit a bmw engine and *really* get some extra power.

 Re: 435 to 602
Because fitting a 602 is cheap and easy and costs almost nothing, fitting a BMW engine, even doing Ll the work yourself will still set you back over a grand and swapping it back isn't the work of an hour or so.
I don't know if 453 Dyanes had the same gearbox as 435 2cvs but you might want to swap it for a 602 Dyane/2cv box as the 2cv4 box is super low ratios. Other than the crossbox which is different between 435 and 602. It shouldn't be a difficult endeavour to be honest, I've never had a 435 but they're pretty similar to 602s. Changing from 425 to 602 is more effort but not difficult.

 Re: 435 to 602
Thanks for the help. I'm going down the "Top End sort" route I think. It seems the logical thing to do.

 Re: 435 to 602
Did you look at CatsCitroen site re engine swap? If you are RHD, then I don't think there would be much problem with the exhaust of the 602. Its the LHDs that make you scratch yer head a bit. Bob

 Re: 435 to 602
I think the exhaust is only a problem on a 425, the 435 is much the same as the 602 but with a slightly different crossbox.
