I like diesels. A nice 50-60bhp turbo diesel in a 2cv would be great if it didn't weigh much more than the standard engine.

Daihatsu used to make a little 3 cylinder diesel, about 35 hp without turbo, about 45 with turbo. It's been used in a few diesel motorbike builds, and gave daft mpg figures, but I don't know about the weight.
