My headlamp switch outer casing has melted. I don't have dim dip, but whats the correct pins to by pass on the relay? don't know if the wrong pins would cause it? maybe a short? but where the fuck can there be a short seen as we had the top of the loom apart at the ICCCR?
I'd like to get it sorted really, cause it seems a bit dangerous.

find the relay plug on the loom that has all five sockets with a wire off the back of them - the other only has 4 wires on the 5 way plug.

as the plug faces up at you with centre slot horizontal and the horizontal one at the top its the top slot and the vertical one at the right

the only f##kup would be if id bridged the wrong plug but then the lights would have not worked....i think

did they start to work at Icccccr after we left
ill send you a new switch if yours is totalled.

pull the resistor at the front too if its not done - and check the conexions under the switch

but it sounds like youve got a dead short somewhere the cause of the original problem?

Definitely should be pins 1 and 5 on the 5 wire socket, which is what we did, to double check mine looks like this,



If it was shorting to earth after the switch then the lights wouldn't be coming on, I'm assuming they're standard wattage bulbs and are working fine at normal brightness?

Edit. After seeing Sean's post, if the wrong plug gets bridged then the dipped beam will come on dimly any time the ignition is on, it wouldn't overload the switch.

Can you undo the feed to the switch and measure the current with the lights on, you'll need a multimeter with 10amp setting and even then it'll only just do it.

Ok, yeah it's all as it should be, as you did on saturday. It worked, and they're bulbs i've had from ECAS so I assume they're correct, I can put another set in to try tomorrow. Switch is ok for the moment, as i took it apart and straightened it but a real one would be nice. What is the black thing with two plugs on under the dash too, looks like a piece of wire runs through it within a plastic casing, that is unplugged, could that bear any relation to it?

I'll test it with a meter tomorrow, but it gets stupidly hot, it could be the replacement switch?

Citroen don't use those.

its a diode stops the power in the lights going the wrong way which feeds in to the ignition circuit stopping you from switching off the engine with the lights on

That's the diode from the dim-dip, you don't need it, and now the relays are out it won't make any difference if it's plugged in or not.

The dim-dip diagram is here, diode is number 41.

the wire that goes into pin 1 on the 4 wire socket is the one on the end of the diode its a "Live with iggy on" so usefull for radios light up michelin men day running LED lights etc

but i dont think i should put such ideas in your head
