Been to the Hereford pub meeting this evening and the 2CV is running like a dream. Think I'll enjoy the drive to Orkney a week on Friday, can't wait.

Heading up to Wick in northern Scotland on Friday as I'm spending a week on the Orkneys islands. The weather is looking bloody awful across the whole of the UK so I'm now seriously considering leaving the 2CV in the garage and go up in the C4 I'll make a decision on Thursday evening, as if I do go in the 2CV I'll need to get it out of the garage on Thursday evening as I'll be heading up around 4:30am with a 600mile journey to make.

2CV is sat outside and everything is packed and in the boot ready for a 4:30am start. Looking forward to breakfast at Tebay in the Lake District.

Well the 2CV has made it, I'm now on Orkney till next Saturday. Had a good run up yesterday, 571 miles in 13hrs, including breakfast and lunch stops. Only 'issue' was when going over Beatock Summit in southern Scotland, the car lost power whilst overtaking two lorries in very heavy rain, the first time it's ever done that, I dropped onto the hardshoulder and it quickly recovered whilst still in motion, so little time lost. Lovely weather now.

Was in Kirkwall yesterday and when I returned to the car there was a photo of a 2CV chassis with a note written on the back saying he has lots of spares if I need anything whilst on Orkney. Later in the day I stopped at an ancient farm museum and the chap who was showing people around was admiring the car and told me he knows of two on Orkney Mainland. Well today I was back in Kirkwall and looking around the cathedral when I heard someone behind me say "it's the 2CV owner", I turned round and it was the chap from the farm who was guiding visitors around the cathedral and introduced me to another guide who once had a 2CV and had seen mine drive past a few days ago and she loved seeing it. Spent about five minutes chatting then carried on looking at the cathedral. It's a small world. lol

I highly recommend a holiday on Orkney in a 2CV. The roads are fairly quiet apart from tractors and they are also fairly flat, lots of nice straight sections and in good condition. The weather has been lovely all week and the hood has been open for most of the time. There's only one problem, it feels too British so I'll be heading back to my beloved Shetland ASAP.

I'm back home now after 11 days and 1774miles. Whilst driving along the A9 north of Inverness yesterday, the 2CV passed 220,000miles.

Booked in for an MOT later, fingers and toes crossed.
