I just heard from my mate who has said not to modify the bellhousing! He said the ring gear needs to be moved instead, but I can see on a 2cv there is no more room for this because of a small lip...
See ami8i's post in this classic thread HERE, it was done for space saving but caused more clearance issues, only 1mm can be taken from there bell housing lugs.

I have a Visa flywheel with a 2cv ring gear on it and the top edge runs right to the face, I will take a pic of the standard Visa flywheel also which has the ring gear set flush with the face, when my camera charges...

Left is a standard Visa flywheel and ring gear, Right is a lightened visa flywheel with a 2cv ring gear set at the same location as a 2cv flywheel.
As you can see the visa ring gear sits flush with the face, on a 2cv flywheel there is a lip machined there that doesn't allow it to move closer... The difference is 5mm.
My solution is to grind down the face of the old starter motor I have, it has more meat on the flange than the new Valeo starter I have, which I will use when I get the Visa motor in.

Sorry not to have contributed earlier, but I think you're on the right track. I know I have to reposition the ring gear on the very back of the flywheel for my set-up to work.

I took 5mm which was around half the thickness of the flange .

Very happy with the results.

I Luv the LNA gearbox!

Being able to do 65km/h in 2nd and 105km/h in 3rd means that overtaking is now normal practise! AND, I got a speeding ticket for 116km/h... crap.
Also getting massive run ups to sand dunes in 2nd and pulling it into 1st half way up buts a stupid smile on my face

BUT!

The brakes are soft, I don't think I could ever get them to lock up. I have GS 1220 discs and rotors with 2cv master cylinder, maybe I need a GS master cylinder, any thoughts?

I have GS calipers with a 2CV master cylinder, they lock up easily.

The GS calipers have bigger pistons and operate on a bigger diameter disc, the brakes should be 26% stronger if working correctly, I did the maths. :geek:

If the pedal feels soft I'm guessing there's still some air in there somewhere, I think there's some air in my system, the pedal always travels a bit further on the first press, but it still locks the brakes, just further down the travel.

Apart from that my problem is that the front brakes are now much stronger than the rears, so I need to find a way to uprate the rear brakes.

Or just 26% easier to lock up (less force on the pedal). You won't get any more friction with the same weight and tyres. Better cooling, less force needed to operate but the same maximum deceleration.
