I wonder what happened to this? toomany2cvs wrote: samfieldhouse wrote: So the only other known Belgian built AKs in the UK are Pete's 'Stimpy' and this one? As theyre both AKLs does that make Hetty the ONLY standard Belgian AK in the UK? How many 350s _are_ there? I can only think of six off-hand. Het (Belgian AK), Stimpy (Belgian AKL), that rotten shed (Belgian AKL), Daras Rich (French AK), Tim Jessop (French AKB), Mark350 (French AKB) So a year on my list of UK 350s is: This one (what happened to it I wonder?) Belgian. A nice yellow one that was on eBay a while ago (French AKB) A beige one that was at Raid Imber... can't remember whos though Again a French AKB The shed that keeps coming up on eBay in East Sussex that Russ bought but then had to decline as I broke his car. That DREADFUL red thing that's running with AKS large ripple panels, been converted to RHD has a D*lly engine and 'box and is on a G plate Chris Bowes (2cvGB's SPOG Man) AK(B?) French Daras Rich's AK, French, now running with an M28 Tim Jessop's AK, French, now running with an M28 Mark 350's French AK(B?) running with an M28 Hetty, AK, Belgian, running an M4 Stimpy, AKL, Belgian, running an M4 but not on the road. and... (dum dum DUH...) Dave 411's AK, French, running an M4 So yes. Hetty is the only Belgian AK on the road in the UK and (soon to be) one of two running M4's. Ironically, despite the majority of AK owners getting rid of their M4s because they're slow, unreliable, break, etc and fitting M28s. I would hazard a guess that Hetty has clocked up the most miles annually over 2011-12 'kin love my M4

I would hazard a guess that Hetty has clocked up the most miles annually over 2011-12 I only swapped the engine because when I blew up Hugo's original one, we had a disc-brake engine &box sitting around ( though I probably wouldn't switch back now) Just for the record: last MOT (Jan 2012): 88121km previous MOT (Dec 2010): 78321km difference: 9800km (6090miles) for the year By the end of this May (five months in), I had already covered 4275 miles; I think it's closer to 5000 now, but the van is at work, so I can't check til tomorrow...

Beg to differ, though, Adrian; as far as i know, AKLs weren't made after May '68 - ie. when the changeover to M28 engines happened. The gearbox had already changed to 'late type' the previous October, quite a strange, malice aforethought, setup, really.
It has a long history on the Van Register, belonging in the late 80's to Ian Reade, near Bristol, who had already converted it to M28 mechanicals when Alastair bought it - finding M4 stuff (particularly M4 stuff that wasn't shot to bits) was a lot harder in them times. I should know...
It ought to be saved, really, given the rarity of the beast (only one left in Belgium, and one other in Blighty (Stimpy!). Hell of a job, though... 1984: 2009:

 Re: that AKL on eBay...
It's incredible that, despite the body being monumentally fubared and it having been mechanically molested, it's kept virtually all of the impossibly hard to find, rare Belgian accessories. I really hope that it goes to somebody who understands what it is!
