You need a special tool to loosen the nuts..... first take a look if you can loosen all the nuts from your existing manifold... otherwise make or borrow the special tool first......

not if you swap the carb while the manifolds are off the engine. dont even try to undo the manifold nuts at the exhaust just split them with a really sharp chisel

My nuts look dry roasted

I had a go on the nuts on the spare engine and they turned ok.
So if I duck oil the nuts on the old manifold, give them a little turn, see what happens. Sound like a plan?

Special tool, what does that look like/do?

Maybe I won't paint it, don't want to make the rest of the engine jealous and spoil the under bonnet karma :P

I will purse my lips give it a mega tuba style blow and check no mice have moved in though ;)

cheap "torQ" spanner from BnQ 12/10 combi ring, heat the 12mm end at the dog leg and bend the main part up 90* to the ring then grind the ring to 4-5mmdeep and grind the outer edge of the ring to make it thinner

it locates on the nuts and you use a tommy bar in the 10mm end. my mapp torch heated the spanner but a domesic gas ring or a propane or butane torch will do it they are crap spanners. it helps if you have a vice and a big hammer near the gas cooker :?

the 2 rear nuts need an open ended 12 on the OS nut and a 12 ring on the NS

but as i say take the mnifold off the engine and swap the carb on the bench

Emily and I took about 8 twin choke carbs off manifolds at Ruskington - we did it by removing the accelorator pump.
