Yep I caught it unawares - thought I would take it in a month early so it wouldn't develop half a dozen niggling faults 24 hours before the old MOT expired which my cars usually do.

Or, you've got exactly the same amount that you would have had anyway.

11 months MOT - £50
13 Months MOT - £50
Total 24 Months MOT - £100

Glass is still full - no diddling :)

And no last minute panic when something goes wrong just before the test so I'm a very happy bunny ;)

I do the same every year ...... MOT due mid September, take the car to MOT station mid August .....gives me a month to sort any failures out and [more importantly] .....chance to buy any parts I need at the International.
I'm getting 12 months between tests .....and 13 if I need the extra month.

Since it's all computerised these days, doesn't an MOT fail mean an MOT fail - full stop? You may have the original piece of paper that says you still have a month to go, but I suspect that if you were pulled over and a check made, your car would be declared as... fail.

Yes I'm sure you are right - the later certificate (i.e. fail) would be the valid one.

My original post about submitting the car for MOT a month early was that if you aim for a date one month before the actual expiry it gives time to rectify unexpected faults and potential fails comfortably without the pressure of the actual expiry date breathing down your neck.
