 Gear box again
Rejected Acadiane box floating around on the floor. No wonder it was removed from the car and dropped in a corner. Wonder why people are not interested in finding the reasons why their gear boxes gives up. Found gold inside this one. Damage to the crown wheel bearings. Need to strip the entire box to get rid of tiny metal chips This came out from the crown wheel only This kind of damage is done by small amounts of metal So drop the gear oil every time you drop the engine oil. Gear oil is cheap but gear box jobs are not. Sadly 2 other boxes ended their lives (parts) in order for 1 box to return to the road. Oh yes. Tell me again that 2cv should be belted the shit out of them. BAD form. Viking Bastard

 Re: Gear box again
Good work! You've just reminded me that I haven't changed or even checked the gearbox oil on my cr since I got it.
Ep80 is the right stuff, isn't it ?

 Re: Gear box again
Thanks Yes EP 80 will do but be awáre of not using API GL-5. You need API GL 4 with none active sulphate. Also lock your selector ring and/or be very careful in reverse. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gear_oil

 Re: Gear box again
Well - it's a drum brake box so "should" be hopefully ok in the lockup stakes. Maybe. I shall now reverse into the garage to change the oil and lock the box up completely.

 Re: Gear box again
I'm so glad I changed my oil on the box. I oh it off for ages for no reason. When I changed it, the oil was really Manky
Changing gear was easier too !!
Only cost you a tenner. 0.9l and 5 minutes work...!!

 Re: Gear box again
Don't be fooled thinking that drummers are safer that disc. Have several drummers doing the undoing stunt. I've come across selector rings with very soft metal, they open and spin off very easily. The selector ring made from harder material is safer but still spin off if pushed beyond the limit of what and old gear box can handle.
