If you've still got the Visa gearbox or bellhousing to hand and offer up the engine to it, the flywheel stud should then be directly under the low speed sensor hole.

I don't know how this points cam is fixed to the Visa camshaft, but if it's the usual expanding bolt setup and the standard centrifugal advance mechanism is retained, I'd fit the points box 'horizontally' with the points gap correctly set, turn the points cam assembly until the points are just opening, then lock it off with the expander...

Fitted clutch housing but to no avail. I'm still way off the TDC mark.
I have 7-8 teeth between them, should be 3,6 teeth. What the f...k is wrong

When does the sensor kick in, when aligned or just overlapping? I don't have any to fit for testing.

your not doing something stupid like changing the piston stop from side to side for the turning back bit?

dont mark the teeth mark the plain bit and use dividers, calipers bits of wire or whatever to find the centre of the two marks- its too easy to loose a couple of degrees choosing the tooth nearest the datum

trouble is with the peg where is the 10*at the start, the middle or the end?

I'm not sure what you mean Sean. The rod stays on the same side, I turn the crank shaft until the piston hits it. Mark the tooth where the pointer is, turn the crank shaft the other way until piston hit it again and place the second mark. Do this several times, everyttime getting 25 teeth. I mark the middle tooth leaving 12 teeth on either side. I can't for the life of me see how this could be wrong but nevertheless I get 7-8 teeth from the sensor pin and I should get 3,6. I can't work it out.
When all done, I start again but on the other cylinder to see the variation same result except only half a tooth between the 2 sides.

I will check it for you;....... but it will be tomorrow evening (sorry) I'm just bringing myself to bed right now...

But I think it isn't that tricky. when your points are 0.45mm insted of 0.4mm you are also maybee of 1 degree (never tested it so)

Your engine will never have the full power on points (at least at iddle) sorry to tell that
but thats the truth, by "folding" the counter plates you can adjust advance at max rpm so that will be good. But the advance curve which the points will make is crap....

My (electronic ignition ) (sorry didn't want to mention it) engines have 20 degrees advance at 800 rpm making much more torque but on normal point you never can't do that........

The only thing you need 8 or 10 advance degrees is for starting the engine at 500 rpm it can already be (much) higher..........

your marks will be correct then the sensor will sense when the pin has past the mark?

have you counted the teeth its not had an M28 starter ring fitted has it?

are you sure you're not confusing one of the 'stop' marks with the TDC mark?

In that last set of photographs, second picture, is there a (Tippex) mark hidden to the right of the pointer?
