There was a PR call from 2cvGBs press officer looking for a yellow club.

Post 2/3 scale Porsche 962c replica
Quote:
2/3 Replica of the Porsche 962C of Jean-Louis Ricci

Jean-Louis Ricci participated 12 times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans between 1987 and 2000. He raced for JOEST in 1989 (Pescarolo / Ballot-Lena) when he finished sixth overall and in 1990 again (Pescarolo / Laffite) when he finished 14th. Considered by French magazine l'Equipe as the last of the gentlemen drivers (magazine headlined "racing costs him 15 million francs every year"), Jean-Louis Ricci was offered this replica by JOEST for his son Romano, with whom he was to make his last appearance at Le Mans in 2000 in a Porsche GT3 R.

This "toy" is not quite what you think it is - it is actually an almost proper car for a big child (or a young adult) powered by a Citroen 2CV 6 engine! The performance is impressive given the weight of the car. The BBS wheels were custom made. A really beautiful object, whose provenance is historic, with which you will be most distinctive on a kart track!

Estimation 15 000 - 20 000 €

My agent called one evening and asked if I'd like to help out the BBC with a project they were stuck with. Naturally, my first thoughts were that if they couldn't finish this project it'd be a waste of license payers money. Instinctively I wanted to help the Great British public. Thankfully i found a window in my diary and was able to help them out and pretty much saved the day.

Seriously though, Sam fwd'd me an email from 2cvgbs PR man, he said it was something for TopGear and it all seemed like a good excuse to take the day off work and maybe get me car on the telly. Everybody we met was awesome, Hammond was a proper nice bloke too. Was in the car for all of five minutes before asking if it was for sale... Whilst I wouldn't be surprised if the finished piece is a bit of a piss take, even the two drivers who were used to driving proper fast and exotic stuff didn't sneer at it, and I had a feeling that one of them was starting to enjoy it towards the end of the day, as he was 'trying' harder every time he had to drive it across the aerodrome.

Their production office is amazing. You wouldn't think two grotty portacabins would hold any interest, but they had the remnants off a lot of their adventures just cluttering up the place. The box of Allegro spares was from their trip to India, all the lap time boards you see on the telly, loads of photo's of all their celebrity drivers, a trophy cabinet with all their awards and stuff in, and shelves with all manner of stuff on them, cool wall pictures, Smoke grenades etc...

The program is due to air around October as they're hoping to tie it in with the release of the new Bond film 'Skyfall'.

Alongside the 2cv they had a Vanquish that they were doing some lairy drifting with, a DBS which had Daniel Craigs crash helmet custom built into it, and was number '007' off the production line, a Blower Bentley, an Alfa GTV and a Lotus Excel which they were using as a double for one which they'd converted into a submarine.

Richard Hammond had been interviewing Roger Moore (in Monaco) last Friday, and according to the researcher Moore said his favourite Bond car was the FYEO 2cv. I'll believe that when I hear it from the horses mouth, but it'd be nice if it was true...

They used the 2cv for a good few hours, They set it up with two cameras inside for Hammond to talk into, then they removed them to film it from a boom mounted camera on the back of a truck, then fitted it with three external cameras to film the front wheel, rear wheel and front end while driving. Once that was done they removed all the cameras to film it passing by static cameras at the side of the road. I'd say they spent more time doing the 2cv than any of the other cars there, so I'd hope there would be a good chance of it getting into the finished program, even if they do take the mickey.

Have a few more pics...

That fella on the stairs is the boss man Andy Wilman. Probably hoping the crew finish doing the 2cv so the two twats who are excitedly running about getting in the way go home soon.

Currently asking myself why I'm still a member of 2CVGB. I'm still waiting for June's mag to drop through the door, and when it does eventually turn up I'll probably not read it anyway.
