Harley,
I learnt the same lesson last Autumn, when a friend with an LN gearbox in his Visa-engined car needed a replacement output shaft assembly and a scrap GS gearbox which I'd got lying around looked like the ideal donor.

Blooming Citroen and their 1mm(?) difference in diameter of the output shafts...

Thats why we luv then right!... right?...

Ken, do you think it is ok to drill the GS disc brake and do one bolt through spacer and all or should I drill output flange to suit the GS disc then use the adaptor with separate bolts to the flange and to the drive shafts...

CHeers!

Hmmm, this is an interesting development :? I did this swap the other way around, LNA flanges into GSA 'box, and it appeared to work fine. However from what you're saying it sounds like the splines might in fact be a bit of a sloppy fit, which won't do much for their longevity. I would have liked to have thought I'd have noticed when assembling it, if that was the case, but maybe not.
I'm going to pin my hopes on the fact that there are two different types of GS flange, the tripod style you've got and the full circle ones I've got, and I'm going to hope that mine are a direct swap.

AH AH, wait a minute! I've just had a thought!

I've got the left over GSA and LNA flanges as well as the LNA gearboxs in the shed at work, so I thought I would go and measure them tomorrow. Then I thought further about where the GSA flanges were, I put them on the LNA 'box for safe keeping... BINGO! Therefore they do fit.

What you (both) need, I'm assuming, are the full circle type GS flanges. This also backs up my theory that the LNA 'boxes share more parts with a late GS/A box than an early one.

I could still go and measure stuff tomorrow if it's of any help, just tell me which are the important dimensions.

Harley,
I was going to suggest that Joolz would be the man who'd know about this, so since he's already in full flight, I will leave you two to sort this one out...

Hi ,
It is the Ln spline that is slightly larger dia. I really need to get myself some calipers ... but the eyes say it's a bee's dick different...

Is that an Australian or European bee? Sorry don't know the answer, would seem all mine are the same.

The threaded ring also seems different, the GS input flange fits into the Ln box but, sloppy, but doesn't screw up...

Another thing... I struggled with mating the LN box to the 2cv engine until i realised that the locating dowel at the bottom right was stopping the union. It has allowance for a dowel at the top left but it is missing.
I did get a nut on it and tried to tighten it on but it was clear that the amount of force required would probably end up cracking the bellhousing... or i'm a pussy.
I swapped to a Visa bellhousing without any dowels and it mated ok.
Should I just remove the dowels altogether or are they required?

Try and keep the dowels if possible, and I'm sure it should be possible. If the engine and 'box aren't lined up properly it can wear stuff like the spigot bearing or the input shaft seal, maybe cause vibration. I'm not really sure, but this is one of the cases where I think if Citroen bothered with them, we probably should too.

I had a look at the GSA output flange, spline dia 24mm, shaft dia 25mm, and looks like your LNA one to me.

Thanx Joolz, I agree on both accounts.
I just purchased a MITUTOYO VERNIER caliper on ebay for 10squid!

I got the machined discs and input shafts back

The input shafts were noticeable wobbly on the lathe despite trying different methods to clamp them.
