Why's this in the O/T thread? :? It's about a 2CV.

For those who also covet 'The Dark Side', enjoy.

But the guy at about 5mins in is clearly talking bollocks as well as French, when he claims the R4 was the world's first front-wheel drive car.

I rather like R4s. As a wee small lad, I used to prat about in one for hours on end in a field on a farm at Mwnt, near Cardigan. When the farmer had had enough of his original R4, he drove it into one of his fields to rot next to the old tractor and threshing machine and bale conveyor etc - which gave us kids a perfect playground to mess about in. He replaced it with another R4, which eventually ended up next to the old one, and was superseded by a R6.

I used to drive the 2nd R4, the first car I ever drove on my own, which us kids cruised around in from field to field of a summer's evening, counting the farmer's sheep flock, turning sheep over that had got stuck on their backs and making sure that the seagulls and crows didn't peck their eyes out! Happy days!

Loved the rear-view mirror mounted on the dashboard. Compared with the floppy-winged 2CV the R4 felt kind of solid. It was more like the Dyane.

Quite fancy a R4 myself. Seems to have a parallel culture with the 2CV. 2CV is the better car though :P

 That's about a mile from where I grew up, I spent endless childhood summers on that beach, and we even had an R4 van back in the mid 80's!

 Ffynnon Grog Farm. Spent every summer, Easter, and half term hols there (staying with friends who lived there) between the late 60s and early 80s. Brilliant times. Brilliant place. Haven't been back for years. Part of me wants to go back to have a look - but part of me doesn't, in case it pi55es on my memories.

No need to go back, much cheaper and easier to sit where you are and use Google's Street View.
