Look forward to see the results James. A note of caution, have you checked the small print, the council might say no working in the garages, in which case you may have to keep a low profile.

James, I know nothing about fibreglass, so humour me, but is it possible to make doors from fibre glass, given they're in such short supply?

I cant see why not, it would be difficult to make them, but personally id rather not make fiberglass doors since as thin as the metal may be its defiantly going to be stronger than fibreglass,
however could do them out of carbon

and joolz, i always keep a low profile, its tucked away so as long as no one see's me

i could always take the stuff home to work on and just store them in the garage,

i would rather mould of normal standard wings, ive got the brand new one to practice with

I've wondered where all the Belgian racers get their fiber doors. I expect a lot of Dyane owners might too.

Could the fibre glass be re enforced with aluminium / steel / some sort of polymer bonded in? or in continuous strands in a woven formation with a honey comb layered structure and a good tough matrix (?) , I did an assignment on this

How much would they cost in carbon?

James,
don't forget to trial fit the new steel wing to a car before you make a mould from it.

Some years ago, someone I used to work with had 10 sets of rear wings made by a company in Leeds, only to find that the flanges on the original panel should have been bent to a tighter angle to fit correctly against the bodyshell.

You can bend or tweak steel panels to fit, but not those made from fibreglass.

One step ahead of you ;)

LL yOu can add more layers but it gets heavier etc
I recon carbon fibre could be the answer

Nice work JW,

Here is a nice article for inspiration on the legendary Dagonet.

It looks like they went the other direction and made everything else out of fibreglass execpt the rear wing

Post Re: Fiberglass panels
So ive been thinking this through,
I dont think ill bother making 2cv front wings as there awkward to make a mould off, maybe once ive made a few moulds ill have a go, but from my thoughts it looks not easy

That aside, would there be much interest in carbon fibre 2cv rear wings?
They would be carbon fibre coloured, obviosuly, dont think you can paint them, but it would look cool in C/F
I think carbon fibre rear 2cv wings will cost about 100-120 per wing seems a lot but the carbon matting is horrifically expensive per sq metre.... More than you mah realise..!!

I recon the fibreglass rear 2cv ones will come in at about 60 each

Im not surenabout ami ones, i need some wings to mould from

I suspect thepricesmwont change much

I could potentially also makeman ami fromt too but ill need practice...
