Pavlos,
check the first video again, noting where the mark is as the engine returns to tickover...

Last time I checked, the points box can be rotated and the amount of centrifugal advance can be adjusted so that both marks line up.
A few degrees extra advance at tickover are no problem as that's simply the slack in the mechanism being taken up, the full advance setting is what really matters.

Ken,
You really cannot have 8* at 850rpm tickover can you?
I always get around 12*. :?
Is it normal?

Ken i think that ur last reply went to taskos ... ;)

Anyway i did waht you told me yesterday and set the 7 mark on 3000rpm . But after that the car couldn't get at higher rpm. I dont think it is a advance prolbem cause everything that i tried didn't help. So i ve left it this way until i replace the fuel pump and to the valves and then i ll go back to the timing again.

Today i got my car at a citroen service point . They set my ignition timing without a strobe ( with the old traditional method) for free.....!

But they told me after i ll replace my generator that i can take it back to set the timing again, and measure the gas and co2.

Ken,
I got the point of 8*-12*.

Pavlo,
A change in generator cannot alter the timing. Propably they want to double check after some Km.

pavlos,
indeed it did, so my apologies...

Back on topic, is it your car which has a loooonnnng piece of corrugated ducting, like something from a vacuum cleaner, connected to the air filter box?
If it is, those tend to choke the engine at higher rpm, so perhaps a test without it in place would be of interest?

What do I set the timing to on a 425, and any ideas if my strobe will pick up the signal from the lead? I assume it will, although I have to power it off another car. Know where I can get a 6v timing strobe?

run the strobe off a loose 12v battery it should pick up the ht

12 degrees static max is the same i think but double check - divide the differance by 3.36 and thats how many teeth you have to count if the 425 has 107 flywheel teeth

thats probably far too many "if"s and "but"s to be a usefull post
