 Re: My 2cv
Used the 2CV to get to WASPs last night, and I've been pootling around Warwickshire again today. I refueled at Evesham on the way home and got my *best tank* (as 'Fuelly' put it) so far of 45.1mpg. I've averaged 41.9mpg over the last 1000miles.

 Re: My 2cv
Been getting induction roar with the 2CV, I kept thinking the top had come loose on the airbox but it was always in place when I checked. I've just been over to Peter Cross and after fitting another top to the airbox the car was very much quieter. So I left Peter's with a thought of ringing an order through to Roy at ECAS when I had an inspired idea I've removed the top of the airbox and put insulation tape around the edge and so far it works!!!! A nice quiet (for a 2CV) engine.

The one on the van is new but works loose every so often - I'm going to put a small ratchet strap round it next time I've the bonnet up I also only usually get mid- to high- thirties from Hugo, though on the way back down from Wanlockhead (cross-country B-roads mainly) we managed around 40.something He's a lot better now than when I first had him - 10years ago we were doing low thirties

 Re: My 2cv
I drive at the max speed on the first choke, though I do use the second choke to get past lorries on the motorway etc.

 Re: My 2cv
A good solution to the problem of the lid working loose on a plastic air filter box is to fit a central retaining 'bolt'. It's actually a length of 6mm threaded rod, clamped to the base with 2 repair washers, 1 plain nut and 1 nyloc nut. The lid is fastened with 1 repair washer and a wing nut, making sure that it's not over-tightened.
If the edges of the lid are 'feathered' because it's been left loose for too long, you may need to find one in better condition...
Ken

 Re: My 2cv
Thanks for that Ken, an interesting solution for a lid that comes loose. The lid on my car was brand new about 2yrs ago and it does fit tightly at the base (below the sponge filter) but there was a very slight gap around the top which the insulation tape has bridged and effected a cure (for now). I'll run the car and let you all know how I get on.

 Re: My 2cv
Just been out in the car and took it on the M5 for a bit of Harry Flatters and I'm pleased to say that so far the 'fix' for the airbox is holding and working wonders. Bring on the summer!!

 Re: My 2cv
Wow! What a fabulous day Just been out in the 2CV enjoying the lovely, warm sunshine. Life doesn't really get better than this. Shame I have to go into work at 2pm (on my first day off in well over a week, too ). Ah well, I can still use the 2CV to get there, and hopefully won't be there more than an hour.

 Re: My 2cv
Been out in the 2CV again this afternoon. Was sitting on a bench out towards Inkberrow enjoying the sunshine with the car a short distance to my right when I heard what I thought was a M4 powered 2CV clattering towards me. It turned out to be one of those little French cars with a 500cc diesel engine on a 61-Plate Here's a link to where I was sat, which has a lovely view towards the Cotswolds.... http://maps.google.co.uk/?ll=52.204582, ... 1,,0,-0.51
