 Re: Willamis old car
I'll find some photos of the wheels Louis. We've only really done one so far because I just don't have the time really. That's been the biggest problem I have. Everything on this cars been done in the timeframe of one hour lunchtimes and however long I can stay at work before I have to go home. The car can't stay in the workshop in bits because it's not my workshop and it would be very much in the way. This really hampers what I can get done and also the quality of the work I can do. It's a shame but I can't complain because a lot of people don't have the facilities I'm lucky enough to have at my disposal.

You're making me feel lazy, I must start some proper work on mine. Here's the progress so far on the wheels. I'll finish them when I have time but I doubt I'll fit them on the Ami now. The outers are from a Ford, I managed to find a set of four in the breakers for peanuts. I cut the centres out of the 2cv wheels with a plasma cutter then put it in the lathe and turned it down 20 thou at a time until it was a nice interference fit in the rim.

 Re: Willamis old car
I took it home last night for the first time, and have some observations.
The engine has a massive flat spot, it smokes like Dot Cotton, and has no power at all.
The bonnet keeps on popping open. Probably due to some recent shoddy crash repair work.
The tyres, a combination of Toyo Crashmagnets and Nankangs (Nankang is actually the Japanese translation for "you're going to have an RTA") are woefully inadequate. The render the steering wheel as some sort of ornament which whilst fun to twirl round, actually has no direct involvement with the eventual direction of the car.
The brakes aren't up to much. Apparently Gary Dicks rebuilt them at a cost of £500ish, but either they've seen some abuse or Gary was having a bad day. They don't stop the car as quickly as I'd like.
The clutch, and it's stupid graphite bearing is out of adjustment. It's quite hard to get into gear and almost impossible without pressing the pedal right into the toeboard. This is a twat in traffic.
I'd not realised how much I look at the speedo normally.
I'd not realised how much noise the speedo cable would make if I left it disconnected. It is driving me up the bloody wall.
The tacho doesn't seem to save the setting for the shift light, so it has to be set every time I use it.
I'm too old for this shit.

 Re: Willamis old car
Get rid of the ridiculous early gearbox and put a proper late drum brake one in. It's dead easy. Even though you wouldn't guess that from the thread about me fitting one to your old Ami, which I now wish I'd kept instead of buying this stupid Land Rover.
