I've had a car with a home-made roof, but I didn't do it. Looking at it though, it's not that hard a task to do assuming your donor roof has all the metalwork intact.

I think Sean might have, I certainly heard him suggesting that it wasn't difficult.

A new member of the Thames Tortoises has done one out of a clear plastic material. You just need measurements and all the bars and window.

takes a couple of roofs to donate parts, front profile bar is often rusted at the ends or the rivnuts for the central strap need re doing also the rear window frame is often rotted out

get a roof and gently un pick all the rolled over and glued bits and transfer it over to your new material as a template ( make it a bit wider than the original (1m from fold edge to fold edge)

its a bit of a faff and the £150 -£200 might be worth it for the new metalwork and lack of hassle depending on your manual dexterity and mindset.

I do know where the material comes from from one roof manufacturer. Not saying who, or where I comes from as it's not fair,, but it's widely available and reasonable price. We use it at work (sort of ) but you could get plenty of it and make a few cock ups and practice
