I've been told that if your plugs don't last that long, for everyday hard use B7's (NGK) can often be better? Is this true, and will they be ok in a 2cv?

yes B7 plugs will be fine

thread went of on a bit of a tangent

@Bugster ,
Got there in the end eh!
that Ami jet might be a bit on the rich side for an "un blown" engine but hey ho its only fuel ;)
and goes some way to show that these Solex fixed jet carbs tend not to go badly wrong - small adjustments are needed to fine tune them but major problems tend to be of a mechanical (gasket/maiting faces fail) or plumbing nature (rubber pipe/kink/air-leak fail)

Thanks Sean, I'm just delighted at getting a result and working my way through the entire fuel system has got me very familiar with the car. Now you mention an "un blown" engine - is the Ami fitted with a turbo or am I missing something :)

Theres a bit of pipe that goes from the fan cowling that pushes air into the air filter. (same as on a dyane) I've not met anyone who said they notice a difference though.

Thanks Joe. No point in retro-fitting then :)

Not sure this is the place to be?
Need advice please.
What rating are SAGEM C42S?

Jacks car 'Reg' was loosing power when getting hot and we put it off til it wouldn't start and he needed recovery home :D

so adjusted the tappets (which were tight, as expected) but still couldn't get it running did some checks and found the spark plug on the same side as the tight tappets melted, sorted. Ran it and used it through the week.

Took it to Brighton at the weekend and the engine was getting very hot so took the muff off and got there. On the way home started to loose power again and stoped in services, and found it to be only running on one cylinder, took the plug out and it was melted too! Fit a spare and drove home.

The melted plugs are B6 and the spare we fit was too. Will the SAGEM make any difference? Is this the problem? And. Why is the engine overheating with a muff on in this weather?

mixture and/or timing ( see page 3 of this thread where we get to the cause of the melted NGKs)
Make sure there are no leaks on the inlet side - carb base and manifold joints first things to check especially on the melty side
youll have to get the timing spot on before you fiddle with the mixture.
b6s aren't too far off and should not be melting unless your wringing the livin daylights out of it

cant find those plugs on this

Eyquem? C42S, same heat range as NGK's 6.
( Sagem used to make phones)

As Sean said, look for air leaks, also differences in timing between the cylinders, or something as daft as the fins around the cylinder head being blocked with rubbish.

Especially on rubber cowled engines, there can be bits of old alternator belt, shattered pulleys, straw and paper all bound together with an oily matrix.

ken

Almost forgot, turn the music down so you stand a chance of hearing the engine pinking.
If it's melting spark plugs, it's probably pinking heavily.

Haha! Thank you Sean and Ken. I'll have a look when I get a chance.

Phones and spark plugs! Or did I read the wrong name from the spark plug box then? -
