I found, in an old copy of 2cvGB news, an article on rebuilding cheese graters. The back copies now reside with JamesWallace if he's willing to have a rummage.

thanks Sam - I'm sure my cheese grater could be rebuilt, but I just need to get something working in order to pass an mot. I wonder if non-self parking wipers are an mot fail?

My dad seems to have every copy since about 82, so I'll see if he wants to take a look - any idea what year ?

Good news Ben. Have tested 'cheese grater' and it works well. Comes complete with linkage and bracket.

Just for info, the green terminal is 'live to go' and the red terminal is the parking connection. Earth through the body.

Let me know if you're interested in having it. You know it makes sense. :) A donation to the RNLI as usual.

Thanks Viking - does that mean I need to find a relay to get the autopark working? It doesn't say what type of relay it needs - any ideas?

Yes standard relay connecting to the old switch on the dash. Without the relay, the 0 or parking won't work. It will stop when you hit the switch.

Lack of auto-park isn't listed as an mot fail, http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_820.htm

If you just need it to switch on and off then all it needs is the power from the switch(green wire/terminal?) taking to the white wire on the new type motor.

The wiring diagram from cassis uses a basic 5-pin, single pole double throw relay, to do the same job as the double throw switch in a modern car. A 5-pin relay removed from a dim-dip system will do the job fine. I can't see it mentioned in the cassis instructions, but you would also need to connect the permanent live feed (red wire/terminal) to the blue wire of the motor.

Joolz,
if you correct the rather obvious error on that site, a wiper mechanism with a broken or disabled self-park mechanism is an MOT fail.
'Been there, had to fix that' as they say...

. a wiper does not continue to operate automatically when switched on
Replace 'on' with 'off' and this statement might make sense? ;)

If you're speaking from experience then I guess you must be right. I had interpreted that line differently, in that a car would fail if pressing the wiper button resulted in only a single wipe, which seems more reasonable to me.

John, you have a pm.

Thanks for all the input, sounds like the quickest route is the correct type of motor!

Ben, Have sent PM, but it seems to be still in my outbox even though it says sent. Let me know if it doesn't arrive.

Meshking, I have sent another PM this morning. Had the time wrong in my first. It has still remained in my outbox although it said sent successfully. Let me know if you got it.
