Post Speedometer cable routing through bulkhead
My last speedo cable lasted about twenty miles, throughout that time the needle wavered a lot. I guess I got the routing wrong, the cable sheared at the speedo head. Should it route through a separate hole in the bullhead, or just with the rest of the wires?

Thanks , Ben

Looking half way down here http://www.keiths-classic-cars.org.uk/c ... -dolly.htm, i can see that there are two cables to the left of the master cylinder. One I guess is choke, and the other is speedo?

Ben,
aren't those are the choke and throttle cables?
On that site you've mentioned, find the picture with the heading 'the wax fest continues', just in front of the battery is the (grey) speedo cable, which goes through the bulkhead near to the n/s heater stub.

edit: also visible in the photograph titled 'and continues'

Once inside the car, it goes along underneath the parcel shelf, then passes through a hole in the underside of the instrument binnacle to arrive at the speedo.

Btw, I think I recall hearing that there were some dodgy speedo cables on offer, on which the 'squared' end of the inner cable was undersized, so that it would spin in the socket on the speedometer head.
Didn't Old-Nail find that the one he'd bought (at best priiice) and which failed in short order had a 'Peugeot' label on the wrapping?

Thanks gents.

Worryingly , the replacement speedo cable I have (best price, natch) does have Peugeot on it. I think the first one failed because I spectacularly failed to route it correctly. Hopefully correctly routed it will work better, thanks sean for the pics they will be very useful.

What I incorrectly noted as the cable, is certainly the throttle, which is why i only have one hole in the bulkhead in that area on my car.

The route citroen chose for the cable does seem unnecessarily complex to me. I drilled a new hole in the bulkhead directly behind the speedo.
