Just a word in favour of my dremel - I know they're only little, and lots of people don't like them, but they really do have their uses. Grinding down welds where a grinder won't fit. Also today, cutting out holes in the bulkhead. I found if you angle it, it's possible to get quite tight radius cuts in thin steel.

Only now has it occurred to me the problems of my 'filing' system, in that I don't know where I've put all the bits I took off it. Specifically, the doofer that bolts on between the toeboard and bulkhead, that the master cylinder and pedal assembly bolt to. Spent all afternoon looking for it, the only guaranteed way of finding it it to start making a new one

Getting there slowly though.

Do you suppose the lead would withstand media blasting, or would I have to do it afterwards? Or does it depend what material is used for blasting?

i think dremels are great, its one of my main tools at work, when i have to grind a hull to deck joint out on a boat youd never get a big grinder in, the joint is only 3mm wide

I loves dremels apart from when the disk breaks and hits you in the face!

I suggest you would do it afterwards. Lead is soft so it will suffer from blasting. I don't think it matters what material you use for blasting .

Dear me! I haven't written anything in ages, sorry.

Here is the van currently;

Image

The wings are just on so as I mount the studs in the right place, but it's nice seeing it almost van-shaped again.

Unfortunately I seem to have a million things to do over the holiday, the celeste I suspect needs extensive welding to pass its MOT (Expires 21st). Honda's just passed it's MOT, now begins the epic legal battle to register it. And I'm supposed to be revising for stupid exams... Anyway, I want to cut the last of the holes in the bulkhead, which shouldn't be many, then paint it, and I can start work on the wheel arches. Not sure how much if any will be done this holiday.

Thanks for all the advice on lead loading, I'm definitely looking into it - we'll see how it goes :D

Hi james - Yes, I've wondered about it, but I think I'd need to be considerably better before I could sell them to anyone. Can't decide whether I want to go to university next year, or find a barn somewhere and repair 2cv's... I suspect both options would be equally un-profitable!

Go for it! :)
There's lots of advice over at the mig welding forum, it's really useful to be able to do your own welding.

george,

you could do both...

the amount of time my friends spend being drunk at uni, if you used that time to repair 2cv's youd be more than rich ;)

id go for repairing 2cv's
uni gets you into debt
2cv repair brings some money in
