But if he owes it, he should pay it. By swinging the lead and putting off paying and being generally awkward and smartarse about it just puts the burden on other taxpayers. That's me and you.

That's how the system works, and the only way to avoid that is to go somewhere else. It's really not a bad system either.

Some facebook 'friends' recently posted something on facebook that pissed me off too:

Quote:
IF YOU CROSS THE NORTH KOREAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET 12 YEARS HARD LABOR.
IF YOU CROSS THE IRANIAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU ARE DETAINED INDEFINITELY.
IF YOU CROSS THE AFGHAN BORDER ILLEGALLY, YOU GET SHOT.
IF YOU CROSS THE SAUDI ARABIAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE JAILED.
IF YOU CROSS THE CHINESE BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU MAY NEVER BE HEARD FROM AGAIN.
IF YOU CROSS THE VENEZUELAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE BRANDED A SPY AND YOUR FATE WILL BE SEALED.
IF YOU CROSS THE CUBAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE THROWN INTO
POLITICAL PRISON TO ROT.
IF YOU CROSS THE U.K. BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET :
* A JOB,
* A DRIVERS LICENSE,
* SOCIAL SECURITY CARD,
* WELFARE,
* FOOD STAMPS,
* CREDIT CARDS,
* SUBSIDIZED RENT OR A LOAN TO BUY A HOUSE,
* FREE EDUCATION,
* FREE HEALTH CARE,
* A LOBBYIST IN WASHINGTON
* BILLIONS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF PUBLIC DOCUMENTS PRINTED IN YOUR
LANGUAGE
* THE RIGHT TO CARRY YOUR COUNTRY’S FLAG WHILE YOU PROTEST THAT YOU DON’T GET ENOUGH RESPECT

Yeah? Go and live in North Korea and see how much better it is there then.

That one always pisses me off, too. I hear the same sort of thing from a lot of my fellow lorry drivers - along with "of course, we live in a police state now" - and I always tell people to try living in a proper police state, or try trekking half way across the world hanging under a container truck having left your friends and family and career and home behind you in order to live on £36 a week, before spouting such ill - informed shit. Because that's all it is.

I couldn't agree with you two more, The majority of people who make statements like that are self pitying, lazy hateful shits who want everything on a plate. And when see people from other countries benefiting from the society that they contribute more to than any of said scumbags, they make statements like that as if they are owed something for sitting on their arses just because they were born here.

For what it's worth: the unions are in the pocket of the government (of whichever hue), the labour party is in the pocket of big business, the Tory party is run by big business, the Met is corrupt, and so on... but this is nothing new.

We live in "interesting times" (as the old Chinese curse would have it), not happy or safe times.

Global capital does not recognise borders, which means that the real money can be put exactly where the big capitalists want (ie where they pay the lowest taxes and get the biggest returns). This means that the business taxes that governments used to rely on have pretty much evaporated over the last 15 years. Companies that earn billions no longer pay taxes in the countries that they earn the money simply because they are classed as "offshore". Companies that used to be massively rich have used their money to create leveraged loans, which mean that they are now classed as indebted so that they qualify for tax breaks. The reason this country is "going down hill" is because of the way that global finance has shifted power away from traditional sovereign governments (whose wealth is dependent on tax collection). Communications technology has played a huge part in this. Governments simply don't have the money that they used to have.

Everything else - blaming tax dodgers, unions, economic migrants, disability allowance claimants (99.5% of which are NOT fraudulent, according to official figures), foreigners, and so on is just a case of bashing the little people and missing the bigger picture. So as long as all the little people just squabble amongst themselves, the big people are laughing.

There's a lot said and written about this freeman stuff, and it does have some basis in Common law, but you'd have to be very well informed to use it or you'll come a cropper. Much better to apply the existing law fairly in both directions. Our system is based on the premise that we are all equal in the eyes of the law, so that which applies to you also applies to others.

So what if a guy doesn't 'owe' something, but it is demanded of him? Should he still pay it? For example, a percentage of your council tax might go to pay for services you don't use or agree with. Perhaps the funding of political leafleting, or lavish council Christmas parties. Why pay for that?

A bailiff can only attend if you owe the government money. If you don't pay any other business or service then it's a civil matter, and you are taken to county court, where you will get a CCJ (county court judgement) against you for not paying money you owe. So bailiffs will come for you only on behalf of the government, but what if it's the other way around? What if they owe you? Where's your redress?

Russell wrote:

I agree. But shouldn't that work both ways? If they owe you money then you have to take them to county court, and get a CCJ against them - which for the most part they ignore. Want to know how many government agencies including courts, Police, and councils owe people money and have CCJ's against them? If they owe it they should pay it huh? And how much tax payers money was spent in court costs while dodging those payments I wonder?

Look there. http://www.tpuc.org/content/hall-shame

That's not correct. Why should you or I go anywhere else? This is our country, it's where we live. The government exists to carry out the wishes of the people, not to dictate to them how things will be. It is they that should 'go somewhere else' if they think otherwise - It's called democracy. To tell people to go live in Korea is the most f*cked up piece of logic I've ever heard. Why compare your own country with a demented dictatorship in order to show that it's not so bad?

Do you use that logic in any other area of life? Would you like a little more in your pay packet perhaps? Or do you compare your wages to those of an Indian sweatshop boy then kid yourself your fantastically wealthy? Axe murderer chopped off both you're legs? Well hey, I've seen people on TV with no arms too - so that ain't so bad. It's bad logic fella's. They fought wars for what we have, don't be so quick to throw it away.

So you won't need to move to Korea then, you'll just allow it to come to you.
